Found out my neighbor has a unimog...

So, anyone here have experience getting a refund from a company that screws up your shipping? Long story short I gave specific instructions to have a pair of boots shipped to my parent's house and not to my place in Corvallis because neither my roommates or I would be there during break, 4 weeks worth of break. I had to ship these boots back to the company because they sent me the wrong size. They shipped them to Corvallis anyway. Went down to Corvallis the other day and they weren't outside, inside, or anywhere. Pretty frigging pissed.

Here's the email I sent them New Year's Day.
I ended up having to call them today. They said they had filed a claim with UPS and I should get reimbursed. Is that going to work? Its not UPS's fault. The company ignored my directions and sent them to the wrong place. Even if I get my money from UPS I really don't want to these people to have my money. They were lying through their teeth on the phone today. Just frigging royally pisses me off.

Flight's delayed from Chicago untill 23:30...fawk. Puts me into SeaTac at 01:30..

Sister is driving my truck from her house, then dropping it off in the parking lot. She's my sister, and an "okay" driver. But, she's driving MY truck.. I'll be really really happy when I get into it in a few hours.

Bobert: I did some consulting for a shoe company. They would bend over backwards for any little return reason, provided the shoes were in the box. Sometimes didn't matter if the shoes were even clean - still honored the return. However, I don't know how missing packages were handled. The only time I dealt with that was with Newegg, and they promptly shipped a second package. Sounds like your dealings aren't quite as good.
If I had to buy boots, the first companies I would try are Zappos and Danner. Zappos expects you to return - mainly because they understand that guessing shoe size doesn't always work. Most people buy 2 pairs and send the wrong size back. Danner has a really good store in Portland.
UPS might be to blame. Try looking in any sheds, over fences, so on.

Jake: hope you put on full coverage for that day. We are getting ice, at least around the sound area. :p

Just renewed coverage for six months.... Looks like I get to vacation in beautiful Chicago for another few hours.

Got my Mom's phone all setup; spent four hours trying to configure it via iTunes before I remembered that it needed a new SIM card. Trimmed it to fit, and cut your old one in half. Working great!

    You're due some karma points.

Did some research today: everywhere in the immediate area wants $1000+ to regear to 4.88s in just the front diff..

    WTF?

Really thinking about going with ECGS

They didn't give me any issues about returning them for size fitment. I absolutely hate ordering footwear or clothing online for the whole fitment issue. Unfortunately I have had a very hard time finding a place that carries the boots I want. Fancy pair of cowboy boots just for dancing haha. Unfortunately none of the big, dependable names seem to have them. I probably shouldn't have gotten as pissed as I did, but patience isn't my virtue and I originally ordered these back in November and I lost two grandparents within this last week. Just not the right week to screw up something simple like that for me. Oh well, I should get my money one way or another and someone got an extremely nice pair of boots for free. I'll keep an eye out on craigslist and the local bars for them.

I did get insurance when I sent them back. I believe the return address was from the UPS store though. They must have gotten a new tracking number and everything when they sent them to me, so my insurance is probably no good, right? I'm going to go in to a UPS store tomorrow to learn all about their claims process though. Don't trust these guys to get it done at this point, at least not under my constant supervision.

Sometimes it takes a bit of being nice, but yeah, hard to do.
Very good idea on doing all the research.

Have you tried talking to the dance instructors at OSU on where to buy the boots? They might have good resources. My brother was in Cool Shoes and had to go to some weird shops in Portland to find his shoes.

Honestly most of what I've read has said that if you're not experienced setting up gears, then you shouldn't even attempt it. I'd hate to try and save money by "attempting" to do it myself and end up blowing apart a diff and t-case. ECGS seems hard to beat; now it's decision time if I want to lock the front too. I'm not even home yet, and already planning on throwing money at my rig. It's an addiction..

Get a quote from ECGS, then call JT's and see if they will match it.

Werd! Didn't even know about those guys..

Wonder if they'll do tax free? There's still some perks about being an Alaskan resident..

Maybe, they're good guys. Personally, I use ECGS just because of their no questions asked warranty and the fact their diffs have held up to 37's despite retarded abuse, but JT's also does good work. They just don't have such a bad ass warranty.

    I'll check them out tomorrow..

Yeah it seems hard to beat ECGS. Especially with free shipping. I'm all for keeping business local, but Randy's R & P was quoting me about $100/part over ECGS. And 7 hrs of labor. And wouldn't install gears if I provided them. I understand that they've got a business to run, but they're about 2x as expensive as ECGS.

$1165 + Tax for open 4.88 diff from JTs

    $1847 + Tax w/ARB & 4.88s

$320 in labor to pull/replace clamshell

    Think I'll be going ECGS

Got a guy lined up for my 4.10s, 3rd and clamshell.. what's a fair asking price?

Got 110k on 'em, never been wheeled hard. I'm thinking $550.

That happens a lot, at least at OSU. I have gotten paranoid about how I structure my emails to professors. Sometimes that is the only or first impression you make and you always want it to stand out above your peers. I did do NROTC for a bit, so the attention to detail when addressing superiors got drilled into me hard for academics haha.

Business communication is a great class for an English elective and will help you out with those emails. If you need electives I'd jump on that class.

Yea, its just one of those things that helps distinguish you from the majority of the class, especially when it comes time to give final grades. You never know when giving an instructor a positive face or personality to attach to an otherwise anonymous name might pay off. I've been in classes where the professor has given the entire class a speech about some email or communication pet peeve. Not every professor cares, but for some its a pretty big deal.
