Yeah the downside of that isn't a huge one cause like you said with good rigging you can manipulate the pull angles.

So what is the difference between 3/8" and 1/2" rope in terms of pulling capability? (nobody say the smart ass reply of 1/8" )

 

1/2" is rated up to 34,000lbs (17tons)
3/8" is up to 17,000 (8.5 tons) - which is pretty damn strong.

Another thing to consider is the difference in thickness. You can (barely) fit 100' of syn line on an 8k winch, so with the 1/2" line you would most-likely only get 50' to fit (maybe). That's not a lot of length, specially when you need to do long-pulls, or double/triple lines.

 

Oh damn I missed that part in DDD's ad. Yeah 3/8" is damn strong & good point about only being able to fit that much (which is not much) rope in the winch

Another line to look into for the winch is Samson rope. I want to say that 5/16 is rated for something like 10000 lbs. it also doesn't stretch. I was working on a job where some of it was being used to pull in main electrical feeds, and a guy offered me the end of it to cut for a test, and it took a couple tries using linemans pliers to get through. I have cut 1/4 inch bolts with the same pliers.

 

Samson is the original manufacturer of Amsteel Blue, which is made of a product called Dyneema... just to cover any confusion.

You can get all the other synthetic out there, but original Amsteel is pretty much impossible to beat.

(I have MasterPull Superline only because I got a really good deal at the time )

Anyone know of good (begginer) trails near Leavenworth?

I know Liberty isnt too far, but after hearing about the last trip some of you made there, probably not a good one for a single stock truck to take.

 

The official word is that Leavenworth area is locked down with no Class II (Jeeps, etc.) or Class IV (side by sides) trails.
There is a single area for Class I (ATVs) and Class III (dirtbikes) along HWY 97, with a total of 16 miles of trail. It's pretty fun but not anything serious for you experienced guys.

HOWEVER, there's some OK gravel/dirt National Forest roads. You might engage 4x4 or use AWD due to the rainy season, and what I saw you could do in a car.
Last week, I went to Peshastin and went up Derby Canyon Rd to NF-7400 area. The roads were suitable for 2WD, but interesting from a perspective of exploring. I had a fun time and thought it was worth the drive, but wasn't challenged in the slightest.

No I wasn't. Never got into the Greek scene early on. Would have liked to as a Junior/Senior but by then it was too late (didn't want to be stuck with bitch chores). I have a bunch of friends in houses though & they all loved it.
