Had a bad middle to my day learning that my Galaxy S4 was shot and I have to wait 2 days before I can get a replacement as it is a manufacturer defect......the day ended nicely though when I spotted some deer on a muddy side road.....subsequently the truck got dirty :D Bummer right

Anyone got an extra offroad wheel they are wanting to part with for free/cheap? I am getting new shoes on the truck soon and I am thinking of throwing a regular offroad tire on for the spare so I can use all 5 for rotating.

did some pretty informal number crunching on MPG savings.

having a camper on vs. having an open rear:
I gain 1 MPG with the camper, which resulted in an average savings of $0.001 per mile

camper on, 92 premium vs. standard 86:
I gain 1 MPG with premium, which resulted in an additional cost of $0.003 per mile

I took things one step further and multiplied each tank's miles by the average cost per mile, which gives me an estimated total tank cost. I then averaged those results and compared them to each of the configurations. if my math is on the ball and my truck is open back on 86 octane,
-I would save $0.03 per fill up by adding the canopy
-I would spend an extra $8.18 per fill up by adding the camper and switching to premium

I've been messing with the numbers and I averaged out the miles/gallons/cost and compared, did total miles/gallons/cost and compared.
The sample data for the standard gas/camper on was from a wider date range than I would have liked, and I threw out some data that may skew the results, but it also covered some points of high price gas. In all, the data totals stayed pretty consistent.

Kudos, sir. You have taken this analysis deeper than I've seen yet. Well thought out.

For some reason I thought you said per gallon last night instead of miles. Nice, I'd be happy to gain a MPG! Not sure if the 'winter blend' gas is in but I'm now back at 14.x mpg rather than 15.x.

I think we may have it already. I'm back down from 19 to 17.5 in this first week.

I don't think you understand - I was losing money by going with 92.

Have you compensated for tire size? With larger tires, your odometer is reading less than what you are actually getting. I had a link in my sig that would help calculate the difference, but the mods deleted it

If you really want to see savings, go with smaller tires. Pete's been saying he gets 300+ odometer miles off a tank with his 235s. It seems kind of suspicious, but I was getting really great numbers back with 265s.

The majority of my driving is highway. I-5 has been a brick every day for the past 2 weeks which probably hasn't helped me. On top of that, I have a slow leak in my pass rear tire... and my TPS won't kick on saying it's low until I am already on the road. I'll get home to fill it and it'll be at 15psi.

Isn't it a passive TPMS system in our trucks, meaning it monitors more by tire rotation than actual pressure, which won't show up until tire is close to flat?

    crap bolted and welded together....
When I had them, they would come on after a few PSI lost from my truck just sitting. I didn't have to be driving for them to come on.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Crazy calculations Mike, I gave up on trying to figure out my MPGs. I know they suck though :p

Last time I checked, it was about 13 with a daily driving weight of 5480lbs.(pre-ARB).
I did get 297 miles from a fill-up last weekend, pretty much all highway miles.
