Nothing is decided yet. Wife and I stopped by a gun store today, looked at a a shotgun they had in stock (weatherby don't remember model, but it has pistol grip with stock) as well as several 9mm pistols, and a few .308s and .22LR. Found that whatever pistol I get first should be composite so the wifey can handle it as well. Held a Taurus PT-92 made with stainless steel, and it was too big for her as well as too heavy.

The scary thing is that you not only watched it for however long, but you recorded it and subjected us to the videos without warning not to watch it sober.

Weatherby PA-459 I bet. The problem with it is that it only holds four rounds..(3", 5 rounds of 2 3/4").good for duck hunting, not so good for a scared wifey. Semi-autos are also finickey on ammo. Low power ammo might not have enough oomph to cycle the action. My wife has a mossberg 500 pump. They are cheap and hold 8. The cool thing about that is you can slowly ramp up your rounds from birdshot all the way up to slugs in the same tube for home defense situations. I don't want her using slugs unless all other rounds didn't work (zombies are tough lol). She also has a S&W M&P, and I would highly advise that for your situation as well. It comes with three different grips, so you both can train with it comfortably. It is also very accurate and will eat any ammo you can find, which is important these days. It's hard to find an off the shelf pistol that will reliably cycle cheap walmart ammo. The M&P's also have a rail so you can put a light or a laser on it. I leave a light on it for around the house, but we also have a green laser that's fun when we go camping for night shooting and messing around. It is bright enough to clear the house with the lights off, however, and has a visible beam.

Every person is different, so whatever fits her isn't always going to fit you, either.
Make sure that she's comfortable with the idea and responsibility of stress shooting. If you feel that you would be more of a danger, then you are going to be more of a danger. Try something else like Karate, a baton, whatever's going to be something you can confidently control the situation with.

for shotgun, you can't go wrong with a Remington 870. It's pretty much the "old standby" for shotguns. Put it next to a Ruger 10/22, a Glock 9mm, and an AR15, and that will give you the most common collection of guns from each genre (well, you'd need a hunting rifle as well, but I'm not as versed on those :p)

My humor is a bit odd. I also find this hilarious

I'm trying to get these locals to give you the grand tour. I'd be there but I'm kinda far off (seems kinda lame excuse when contrasted with you, lol)

I'll just say that I hated shooting that in the store. I was mad accurate, but the trigger is something I cannot live with.
Hence, everybody's different, you gotta find what works for you (or her!)

I dont know what youre talking about :anonymous:

Today was the first non-double digit driving day. I only drove from salem to Puyallup which was a nice change after the 16 hour drive the night before and the 12 or so the day before that .

And one thing I did with my mom when gun shopping was found a range that had a bunch of different rental guns which helped narrow the contenders down.

I love my m&p but have a walther concealed carry, a sig 9mm and a 1911. The 1911 fits weird in my hand but is a special edition (spartan edition) so she is my safe queen. My brother on the other hand prefers a 1911 to his h&k usp...

Yeah it's very similar to a 1911 trigger and it's not for everyone. I sure do get good groups with it though...

I'm a little leery of 4x4 shops because their markups are always sooooo high! But so far, I liked what I saw at Woody's. Seems like a professional outfit. I'll get a quote from 'em monday. I really should do the job myself...but last time I torea a seal and had to do it all over again a couple weeks later...what a pain. I live over by the mall. The truck lives in the garage and I drive a company car most the time:)

I agree, if you can get any variation of a Moss 500 or a Remi 870, you'll be good to go. No need for semiauto, imho. Best purchase I ever made was a $150 Norinco knock-off of a Remington 870. I've put thousands of rounds through it in 15 years without so much as a hiccup. It's got some cool ghost ring sights and plastic furniture, but it still smells like chinese rubber:/
Smar, there's a lot of good stuff out there. Just barter, barter, barter. I can't believe what retailers are getting away with charging.

My dad, an FFL gunsmith, told me to "just get a bat for home defense". Hahaha, he doesn't want me shooting through the wall in my apartment during a dark nighttime break-in, and killing or wounding a neighbor. That kinda thing is bad news for the shooter, and for the gun owning community at large! I like the intelligent conversation going on about this. Y'all are smart gun owners, I like that:)
I vote semi-auto shotgun with a light bird load, or maybe even a non lethal ammo:)
