You running in a group or solo/the OR event??
I just did Oregon one in June... it was AWESOME.

 

what do you want to do with it? i am thinking to put Cooper ATP on my truck in 265/75/16. not quite the same size as what you are looking at, but comparing price of those to duratracs, there is a $40-50 difference per tire.

Joe, you better be signed up as part of a Tacoma team. I did the Seattle one at the beginning of October. Pretty sure we could get a team together for this easily enough. I was signed up as a team but everybody else was afraid to join me, so I went in as a team of 1.

Mickey Thompson just came out with a badass AT tire. I read a review in a recent Petersen's 4wheel, and it performed really well. Aggressive lugs and 3-ply sidewall, might be a good option to look at and it may be a contender against the ever-popular Duratracs.

There's a team tacoma? I made a group call graci-ass(gracias or grassy ass) hahah I signed up for August 10th on a Sunday so I won't have to worry about taking a day off for Saturday. 10am..try to beat the heat!

 

Good call, running in a group is more fun (from what I gathered).
I'm excited, I've been sitting around training/watching other poolees get shipped off for the past 6 months-- it's about my damn time to step on those footprints and start my transformation!

 

Damn! You're pretty much going in the same time frame that I went in. 12/11/06 and graduated 03/09/07. You'll miss Christmas and New Years but oh wells! Have fun man, if you enjoy doing these mud run obstacles and such you'll have a blast. Lots of mind games to fuck with you guys and trying to break you guys down, as a platoon, so mentally prepare yourself and just go through the motion as they're mind fucking with you doing senseless shit lol Second phase, as you've probably heard, is a lot of hiking with 80+lbs pack up in Camp Pendleton in prep for The Reaper. I was 150lbs going in and by end of second phase I was down to 135lbs. What your MOS? Not definite yet?

 

Yep I'm scheduled for 12/9/13. I definitely enjoy the mud run/obstacle courses & am in better shape than 95% of the poolees that I've seen ship out from my RSS... so that'll make things suck a little less. I'd like to think that I'd do okay hiking since my lower body is pretty strong with weight resistance/stamina. I'm going in as an open 03 contract

 

No Tacoma team yet but that doesn't mean we couldn't start one.
I prefer to go Saturday so I have a day to recover before going back to work. I started last year @940 and this year @ 1020. The early start helps to beat the heat for sure, and the arctic enema helps as well.

 

This. Hah. Not to mention dicking around in the mud mounts or whatever obstacle they call it where you get over/help people over. That thing took SO long to get through (30 mins)- only downside to the race is it really isn't a "race"

 

Please go saturday! A few other members and I learned that lesson the hard way.

That was definitely a memorable trip, but not one I would like to go through again.

 

That trip was the one that convinced me about the importance of recovery gear and additional warm clothing. ...and caffeine.

 

I just got a set of GT Adventuro M/T tires. $174/each in 285s from DT. They were at least $50/each cheaper than most other tires and look OK. I don't know for sure if they come in 35s but here is a pic of the tread pattern:


I haven't actually wheeled with them yet so can't give a review on performance.

 

For those of you that end up modding fender flares for clearance, do you just grab a dremel and go for it, or do you prefer to use some heat or a plastic welder and try to bend it?

 

Razorknife. Score it first along a tape line, then fully cut it. Faster, cleaner edge than rotary tools. You could try the heater trick for flat panels, but imo it wouldn't work for 3d stuff...

I burn myself more frequently than cut. I vote for a nice sharp knife/razor with some painter's tape.
