Got one to run by other more edjuhkated types...
My wife was out with her mom today in their 07 taco DCSB v6 automatic. They stopped for gas and when they tried to leave, the truck wouldn't start up and the RSCA light was on. I called Will to see if he might know of anything, but he didn't have any answers off hand. The truck ran fine before getting gas, and yes it was in park. Any ideas as to a solution to the problem?

The truck was towed to a repair shop but that was after hours today.

Did she roll it going to get gas? Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags. Had to look up what it meant lol. Man, that would be a tough one to diagnose without scanning it, but I bet it is some sort of SRS ECU failure or wiring issues?

The RSCA might be circumstance, I'd question the starter. My truck had problems like that until I figured out the starter had a slow death.

is their any problem with extending the lead wires from a ballast to the light?

I want to convert my rack lights to HID, but trying to figure a way to do it without having the ballasts exposed on the rack or in a box up top. Thoughts?

Not a good idea. Ballasts produce voltages of around 24,000 volts to start the arc of your bulb. Granted, it's low amperage - but 24k volts cans still arc around 1"...

I just think you'd stand a better chance at coming up with some kind of housing for your ballasts than to mess with the watertight integrity of your bulb to ballst leads..

jake, that was my thought. Only downside is trying to make a box to keep the ballast's out of the elements, but be vented so their heat output wont kill them. :/

Would they fit inside a Carling J-Box, or something similar?

Then you could even put water tight packing fittings on each of your ballast leads..

As an electrician for a living, I have to go with Jake on this one by saying don't extend the ballast leads. The wiring I come across frequently that is higher voltage rated is still only rated for 600 volts. A friend of mine was dealing with pulling in new feeds at Boeing, which is all 13,800 volts. The lines they were using for that are about 2 inches across due to all the semiconductor, shielding, and sheathing.

In my work van right now, I have a couple of junction boxes that are Nema 3r rated, which in my industry means they are rated to be installed outside. The small one is 6"x6"x4" and the big one is 8"x8"x4". The boxes are both 1/16" steel painted a light gray direct from the manufacturer, example here. I could give you one of those boxes if you are interested. The boxes Jake listed are plastic boxes, and probably not big enough to hold multiple ballasts.

My inlaws are in their 60s and baby their truck. Their idea of offloading means going onto a gravel road. It has never been rolled.

Thanks Mike. This might be a better lead to go on than anything else I have found.

Any other symptoms? RSCA light should be like the airbag light, comes on when the bags are disabled by the comp. I have had an issue once with my ign 1 and once with ign 2 fuses. Both caused a no crank, with other symptoms including locked shifter, blower fan inop, radio inop, headlights and turns inop and airbag lights on.
