    It had to have happened in the last day or two, but I'm gonna replace the whole CV axle. Need to order one from RockAuto tonight and hope to get it before next weekend.

    What do you guys recommend between the Thermoplastic (HD) or Neoprene outer boot?

    Meh, I've been running both CV's with torn boots for what must be well over a year now. Got fed up with the whole CV replacement process. If ain't broke, wheel it! :D

    anyone have a driveshaft I can purchase? thinking my ujoint is toast - probably out of phase as well. wouldnt mind a test of swapping the driveshafts and also a spare while mine is being balanced/phased

    Ben - I don't think it much matters. That's a pretty dang good price, Vatozone and... O'Rieley*.... sell for $90 with core charge extra.


    FYI, if you are having a shop do it, keep in mind that most shops will insist they have to buy it or else they won't do the work. YMMV with non-chain shops.




    *I don't know the hip slang term for O'Rieley.

    Xmas time has completely destroyed the idea of driving anywhere in Beaverton. Living in southern Oregon has spoiled me with the lack of shit heads plugging up the roads. No joggers in the bike lanes yet Ben. But I've been keeping an eye out for them. If I catch one on my dash cam I'll shoot y'all a pick lol.

    Ordered the neoprene one. The thermoplastic is more suitable warmer climates, but becomes more rigid/fragile when it's cold. I will probably install it myself and save the few hundred a shop would charge.

    lol, not gonna go that crazy, just getting the cheap one and calling it good.

    This. Definitely something to keep in mind. As old as it may get replacing CV's, its better than diffs or transfer cases. Though I did, somehow, manage to blow up a CV and diff at the same time once. :rolleyes:

    Ben, you should just SAS your truck and that fixes the CV axle that is already torn open, as well as the one that hasn't been beat up yet.

    For regular lifts and stock I'd imagine upgrading the boots would be fine, provided there is a noticeable difference. If the joints are upgraded then you get the other parts in danger.
