Wow now that's some serious riding. Sounds awesome wish I would have lived more of the ski bum life back in the day living on the mountain putting in all that time. Instead I skid maybe 10-15 times a season from 1984, when I learned how to ski at age 14, till about 2000 when life changes put skiing on the back burner. Picked it back up 10 years ago and now I ride as much as feasibly possible.
Long story short... 53, Married to my best friend 10 years my junior, no children by choice, I'm child enough. Retired at 48, wife completely supports my skiing addiction and although doesn't ride herself she still loves being on the mountain. Now I get to be the ski bum I've always wanted to be :D

I even converted part of my shop into a ski chalet

I use to work graveyard and as soon as I got off I went up to meadows and was usually first powder. Then I would come home at noonish and take a nap.

Never snowboarded or skied in my life. I surfed a lot and miss it a lot so I want to give it a try. Since I’m young, retired, and life 35mins from mt hood I wanna give it a try to see if I like it.

My neighbors are trying to talk me into it. They are all really good except for one he’s a beginner. I gotta rent some gear before I commit to it

Yes rent gear and take atleast a couple lessons from a resort to get the fundamentals down. Your friends may want to teach but that never works out. Being skilled at something does not make you a good teacher and I guarantee by mid day or sooner they will be off ripping it up while you flowder down the hill swearing you're never doing it again.
The key is getting past the learning curve. A lot of people quit before they do. Think about it you're out in the cold, wind is blowing, snow is dumping and you're falling on your ass all day. For a beginner its going to be miserable. This why I emphasize getting lessons from an experienced instructor. Once you do you'll be loving it. Its truly addicting

The one neighbor was a instructor at ski bowl for 20 years. He’s the one that offered to teach me. Luckily I’m too stubborn to quit. I’m looking to head up eventually.

I always tell people too if you’re gonna give it a try a few times and take some lessons spring is a great time. Nicer days, less crowded, and everything is super filled in. (Not to discourage you from going sooner tho)

You a James Bond fan? :spy: I see those olhin mkIV's. :D

I've been hiding a stash of old boards myself, one-day hopefully build a bench seat or 2 with them, and a adirondack chair maybe. You do any tele/free heal technique? Wait just noticed the tele boot in the ski next to your powder boards on the left.

I want to do the same thing. I have a pile of skis in the garage I want to make something out of. No I haven't done any tele skiing those you see are some vintage skis from the 60's i picked up when Alpine Towing in Zig Zag went out of business. They ran a ski rental shop back in the 50's and 60's which sat until the auction about 5 years ago. Tons of great vintage ski gear. It was like a step back in time. Picked up some cool shit
