That's funny because I was on the Baja SAE team in college and the raptor came out my senior year. Ford was a sponsor for our lab at the school so they came by one day to show it off.

This was at the time when ford was marketing it as an off the shelf pre-runner (like legit desert race pre-runner) so people/teams were buying them, sending it, and breaking their frames in half since it wasn't beefed up like the suspension. There was actually talk of a class action lawsuit at the time.

When I asked the engineers about the frame I was told to leave and not let back into the lab for the remainder of their show and tell.

Brand new 2011 raptor, first trip to the dunes, sister went off about a 4 foot dropoff completely on accident. Truck performed beautifully, super smooth landing. You could see the indent of the front skid plate in the sand where it just kissed it...

The truck thought it was in a wreck and the seatbelt pre-tensioners went off, 4 way flashers came on, and car alarm went off. Still not sure why none of the airbags went off, but sure glad they didn't!!

EDIT: i want to add she was only doing between 20 and 25. Had just decided to turn around and head back to the parking lot, took a turn not realizing the drop off to the left.

Yeah, she came by and apologized to me on the following lap and said, "they told me no speed limit on the second lap."

There's something you can't help but love about people that don't give a crap and send it despite the fact it's a $60k+ truck.

Wasn't it a Shelby Raptor? I'm sure it was a LOT more than $60K!!! But yeah, agreed. Must be nice.
