I don’t live over there anymore, but it’s still where I do most of my trout fishing, even if it takes a couple hours.

The metolius is my happy place.

The Fall & Upper Deschutes are always fun too. I haven’t been to the fall in years, and I’ve upped my skills substantially, so I want another crack at it soon.

I hope you chucked that pikeminnow in the bushes somewhere. Did you catch a lot of those guys?

Metolius might be my favorite river in Oregon.

Haha pretty sure it’s a mountain whitefish not a pikeminnow - adipose fin, slightly smaller mouth, and slightly different coloring make me think that. I’ve caught pikeminnow before on the deschutes and they’re very different in hand. I leave the whitefish alone since they have a role in the ecosystem. Plus I’m Vietnamese and we don’t throw many critters out either...without eating them first :)

Looking like we might get enough rain tonight to punch the rivers out again. 3.5hr till I'm fishing.

Ha fair enough. I've never caught a whitefish before so my bad on the assumption there. Learn something new every day!

Checking in, enjoying this thread. Lots to learn from you guys.
I used to fish as a kid, off docks and sailboats. Never got back into it, but hoping to get out a bit this summer.

River is getting pretty clear for 10ft. Fished for only a couple hours. Drifting corkies and sand shrimp tail. I love fishing this river around this level. I sometimes bring my bobber rod but rarely use it because of the confidence I have just drift fishing. I know that a few hundred fish have made it to the hatchery, i still haven’t hooked my first hatchery yet. This is latest for me in the last 20 years to not bring a fish home yet. Keep thinking they are just going to arrive later, but this sucks. Our fisheries are going to shit and it sucks.

It still won’t stop me from going out, but miss smoking and grilling fresh fish.

    Tight line’s

They're a lot lower in the systems right now than they typically are this time of year. I've been taking people to the coast almost touching the salt and it's night and day compared to the upper or more inland reaches (like the Sandy). The good thing is that by the time the fish get to you everyone and their brother will be too focused on Springers to worry about late winter steel  They'll get there soon.

Nice Redside man! That river has some PIGS. I’ve seen some Browns the size of steelhead under those logs, but they are smart as hell.

Thanks! Oh yeah there are some toads cruising around in there but they’re smarter than me.
