Expanded metal cover? Highly secure, visible for security checkpoints (if you pass through one on the way to work). I had the same idea in the past.

I believe this is the correct answer. Initially, they only came with the I5 and eventually they produced the "Alpha" with the V8. For as much shit as Hummer H2's got (deservedly so), the H3 V8 is actually a pretty fun and enjoyable vehicle to drive, despite being classic GM "quality".

Okay yeah, I remember they only had that i5 for a while. That wouldn't be too bad, nice v8 in the smaller platform. The H2 was basically riding on a Tahoe platform right? Whatever you do, don't buy a legit humvee lol. Unless you enjoy doing maintenance weekly. My cousin had one in highschool (yeah...i know) and it just broke down sitting in his garage and I was like yep, sounds about right (I was still in the army then).

I know the H2 shared the Cadillac Escalade platform. I would assume that's the same as the Tahoe/Denali. My dad had a bright yellow H2... hated that thing from day 1. He loved it, despite going through 2 transmissions in less than 70k miles and the endless interior rattles.

Yeah, I've heard that the "H1" is a money pit. Although, the one that Chris Fix has on Youtube is pretty badass. That upgraded motor seems awesome.

Might be a fool's quest, but I'm in search of a unicorn car. If anyone has a lead, let me know....
    Traits:
Euro sedan or coupe (BMW, Merc or Audi, no Porsches likely at this needed price point), Mazda Miata, VW Golf or Subaru sedan or hatch.
    Manual transmission only
Not totally clapped out, doesn't have to be showroom perfect, but not a total pile of shit either
Preferably $2,000, but possibly up to $2,500 (this is what makes it a unicorn hunt....)

Why? I want to teach my daughters how to drive a manual (14, soon to be learning and 16, already driving), and the only thing "manual" I have right now is a Ducati 1098S motorcycle.....
