That's the only time I've noticed it, was going from the SL version of a tire. But most tires that people look at to put on their tacomas don't have an SL version unless its like a real AT tire. I know the ridge grappler had an SL rating that was way lighter but yeah, much shallower tread depth. No regerts here with my 33" ridge grapplers.

Again... my original warning was about the Duratrac C-load, which may have been designed as an OEM tire, which typically have shallower tread depths. Was just a warning to make sure people compare apples to apples.

Yes, I have Ridge Grapplers on my camping trailer. I like them quite a bit.

Here’s a few shots of the 285/70r17 KO2s, Duratracs and trd wheels. Also the duratracs are D rated not C.

When you say snow, do you mean snow wheeling (i.e. deeper loose snow) or do you mean snowy roads (i.e. compact snow/ice)? Been looking for a dedicated winter tire like Blizzaks, but can't find anything in a decent size for 17's. Been looking at just getting Duratracs as a middle ground, but want to ensure that they do well on ice.

Why not get some studdable ATs and add the studs? No tire will be as good as a dedicated snow tire in those conditions though. Different rubber compounds that won't turn into pucks in the cold.

I can't stand studs. I have a worn out set of 265/70r17 Blizzaks that I used for the last couple of seasons. They just look way to small after the lift. May install them to see if I can live with them and order a new set in the same size.

A little bit of both! I've had my duratracs in 2 feet of wet sticky mashed potatoes whilst not airred down and they did fine! I'm driving up to stevens pass pretty much 2x a week during ski season and these tires have never left a shit stain in my underwear if that makes any sense

I second all of this! Snow performance is why I’m on my second set of Duratracs. I picked discount tire’s brain a good bit via PM before getting the second set and at the time they couldn’t recommend anything better for the snow without going to to dedicated winter tires.

I lived in Jackson Hole before moving to Oregon and even there LOTS of folks run duratracs year round for the snow performance and that’s an area where lots of people run separate summer and winter tires.

Have been talking to people that have had both KO2's and Duratracs. I'm hearing quite a few reviews that put KO2's on top...

weird because I’ve heard the exact opposite. Lots of accounts of KO2 being lousy in the snow. Especially from folks that have run KO2s and other tires.

General consensus I’ve heard is that the KO2 is a great all terrain if you live somewhere dry.

I guess that’s thing thing with tire reviews is alot of subjective opinion involved.

KO2s or Duratracs. Seems to come up almost as much as biggest tire without a lift. Everyone has their preference. Both are good tires.

I hated my K02's last winter. Now they were also on a set of 20" wheels but I never felt like I had much traction in the rain and snow. My Toyo's did fine in the rain till I added the supercharger and now I feel like I'm driving a drift car even with 200lbs + of weight in the bed and a little bit of carolina squat.

I’ve had both and duratracs are far better in snow.

Weird. I felt like my KO2's (have had 2 sets) were pretty lacking in the snow/ice. The rain performance wasn't stellar either. I've always heard that Dirtytracks are the superior tire in the snow/ice, only second to a dedicated snow tire like Blizaks.

But KO2 look so much cooler than DorkyTrucks.

I'd rather die a preventable road death looking fly as hell, than be some safety dork... Might as well get a helmet and elbow pads while I'm at it!

I LOVE THE LOOK OF DURATRACS!!! HAHAHA. I wanted them for the look before I knew a thing about offroading a truck or driving in snow.
