Yeah I filled out a police report and they are going to list it as stolen so hopefully it will pop up if someone tries to register it. My wife found it listed on Offerup yesterday that already shows sold so it looks like they might have tried to offload it quick for cash. The crappy thing is that because I handed over the title in exchange for a "check" they were hesitant to even report it as a stolen vehicle because at that point it isn't even technically theft but simply fraud. And assuming it is a 3rd party that tries to transfer the title and it flags as stolen then I could possibly be open to litigation by the new "owner" if it is returned to me.

Working in banking for 9 years, my advice, any time it's a private party deal, do it at your bank or their bank unless its cash....

If people get weird about exchanging a check for keys at a bank, tell'em to fuck off... not worth the headache of what you're going through

I'd imagine a detective could put a watch on that VIN# and the next person to register it gets their ass busted into next week.

 

Dealing face to face is sketchy AF these days period. I do all my dealings at the police station or the bank. I don't think a thief is too smart to pull out a gun to rob you for your cash/goods at even a public place like a gas station or grocery store. Protect yourself and your shit.

 

No, that thing is probably already parted out. The frame is the only serialized item on most bikes.
