Why do people still like to run steelies? I understand their advantage if you are in Africa or on the Mongolian steppe and you have to hammer out a damaged wheel to approximate roundness in the the middle of nowhere, but modern aluminum wheels are stronger, stiffer, and much lighter than steelies, and you can get OEM aluminum takeoffs for cheap.

There are reasons race trucks don’t run steelies, no? They don’t seem to stand up to as much abuse as aluminum wheels. Steelies seem as likely (or more likely) to bend as aluminum wheels are to break. Am I wrong?

The ability to bend them back to shape if damaged and most importantly... cost. Steelies are significantly cheaper and available everywhere.

Also, some people just dig the old school look.

They're cheap and you don't have to worry about them. I have my winter tires on steelies, if they get scratched or whatever, easy fix

Dang, I just looked up their weight and they are THAT much heavier. I wonder what the backspacing on those steelies would be.

will say i liked the look of my 16inch steels on MT tires slightly more then even the wider stance of my 17x9 wheels. when i had a flat and grabbed a full sized spare off my 90 PU

Not mine. Someone, get over to Sandy OR and pick up this bead roller with power drive for $175. If I didn't already have one, I'd be driving right now. Good deal for someone.

Messaged! Thanks Bert. This would go well with the ARB fridge you helped me get. Now I just need to find a TW Express from Spokane to Hood River.
