I think you can but I am not positive. If you can I bet someone on here has done it!

I did some searching, but didn't find anything. Especially anything definitive... $100 is nothing... But I should prolly not worry about it.

New truck is on order, so the Taco just needs to last til it's delivered! I look forward to not worrying about GVWR anymore.

What he said... I'm not certain, but I think it can be done. Likely some different brackets that would need to be welded on.

Yeah, if it isn't a straight swap, i wouldnt even think about it. And now that I think about it (and confirmed in pics online) the layout of the studs on that housing is very different than the 2nd gen e-locker housing... :( Oh well.

I believe the below image is the E-locker style. Has a different cutout and arrangement of studs.

Just add the tonnage when you reup your tabs. There’s nothing illegal about being over GVWR if the extra weight is taxed.

The worry is that my axle is gonna snap, lol. Nothing to do with legal worries. Driving around a full ton OVER PAYLOAD probably isn't the best thing in the world for longevity or reliability.

The 2nd gen e-locker differential is unfortunately pretty weak. The 8” 3rd gen axle is the same as what we erroneously call the 8.4” in the 2nd gen, which is stronger, if you don’t mind purchasing a third member for it.

Complete 3rd Gen axle assemblies bolt right up to the 2nd Gen, no modification required. I’m running a 3rd Gen axle with factory e-locker under my 2nd gen TRD Sport.

The 3rd Gen OR, manual, and Pro axles have 8.75” ring gears, thicker 32 spline axle shafts, and the OR and Pro have an Eaton style electromagnetic locking mechanism. It doesn’t lock up as fast as an ARB but the locker only needs a wire to supply power and a switch on a relay, which you can build yourself for $50 or buy premade for $100, and you can lock it in 2hi or 4hi as well.

Order was placed first few days of October. F-450 Super Duty Lariat.

    Found this on Facebook:

    upload_2025-11-4_7-51-32.png

With a little help from AI, wife was able to come up with the below. The guy above had a 90 gallon diesel tank in the front of the bed. Moves travel trailers, and was tired of sleeping in the back seat of the truck.

    upload_2025-11-4_7-50-29.png

Eventually we'll get one of those mondo truck bed campers (no slides though). But for the next 4 years or so, we plan to keep the Scout. We'll have a nice porch back there, especially with the tailgate down.

We originally planned to keep the Taco, but if we don't use it much we will probably sell it and put the money towards a custom enclosed trailer. But who knows when that'll be. The 450 could be here before the end of the year, or it could be in 2027. There's just no way to know. Depending on specific options, some people have waited over 1.5 years. Hoping for delivery around the beginning of spring, but no way to know. Not getting the Platinum should help, as those are the rarest. Can't even get the camper package on it though, so definitely didn't want it anyhow.

Lol, I’ve seen the real version of that before. In fact I might have taken a picture of it and posted it here a couple years ago.

It's gonna be fun loading it. Even the dually legs you can get from scout aren't wide enough to clear the fenders. They're made for the larger campers, and the Yoho is narrower... Buddy is gonna design me some new legs or adapters.

I built out a 10-foot flatbed F350 with an old 4WC Grandby that we lived out of and traveled in for a couple years. Nice to have basically unlimited payload capacity compared to a Toyota (with the moto, bikes, skis and all the gear for any contingency) but things could turn pretty weird in sand, snow and mud off-road and I always found it funny how the rig tended to get exponentially big when space was limited (in the rocks, tight woods and parking in the cities, etc). We ended up going back to a 2nd gen Taco and just bringing less crap with us. Either way, a dually would be nice for the heavy-duty capacity. That's a sweet rig!

We will also be full timing, eventually. Truck to pay off, then we'll get a big camper, then hit the road. We'll have a trailer with a SxS to scratch the offroad itch. Sand is my biggest issue... I love camping on the dunes in oregon, and with the narrow commercial tires that you can't air down... it might no longer be an option. Snow we hope to avoid, and no reason we should really see mud with the big truck.
