Damn dude, you might not want to listen to me. I thought my 2010 OR 6-speed had 4.10s in it but 4.56 is not that different than 4.3s. I've been out of the Taco game for a bit and I guess I've forgotten some shit

4.88’s seem steep with anything less that a 35” tire? I ran them with 37’s on my old 2nd gen and it was awesome. Sucks there’s no option for 4.56. I’m in the middle of putting 4.30’s in my first gen now.

That’s with regearing? I’m on stock gears at 7200 lbs (fuuuuck) and I get 15-17 highway on 33s. I also don’t go faster than 60.[/QUOTE]

Yeah, it is nuts that the 3rd gens have 4.30 stock, going to 4.56 is such a small jump that I think you would want to go to 4.88 to even really notice a change. The 2nd gen has 3.73 from the factory so I figure going to 4.56 is going to be plenty for me, especially with the lower gear ratios on the lower gears of the 6-speed compared to the AT.

Ah thats what it is. I think its because the new 3.5 is kinda gutless on the low end even tho its 30 more HP

    The autos come with 3.91s

Peak torque comes in at 4600 instead of 4000 with 1 less ft/lbs of torque than the 4.0 but gains 42hp.

0-60 looks like 6.8 for the SR5 and 7.1 for the TRD-OR with automatics.

    https://www.motortrend.com/cars/toyota/tacoma/2016/2016-toyota-tacoma-v-6-first-test-review/

It just feels gutless because there's no torque around 3000rpm and the transmission tries to shift it to the next gear to save gas. Hence the good mpgs (stock). If you leave it in ECT or just push down on the pedal harder, it has a good amount of giddyup and go (for a mid size pickup).

I miss the V8 in my 2008 4Runner. Honestly the MPG's weren't too bad and I'd kill to have that motor in my 3rd gen Tacoma.

Here's a 4-Runner SSO Slimline Steel Bumper with a Rigid 20" bar in it for a solid price (not mine)

Just imagine, you could get a supercharger for the 2003 and 2004 giving you an extra 100 hp and 100 ft/lbs of torque

Maybe that's an early model, but that doesn't look like the SSO slimline that I just installed.

Yeah I know, I was just saying why it feels gutless. Because it did feel slow as shit for a while until I learned how to drive it lol. I slightly regret not getting the 6speed, but I wanted keyless start, regardless of how petty it was.

Have you gotten the latest transmission TSB update? Either T-SB-0058-18 or T-SB-0062-18, both use the same calibration ID. I just got it done on Saturday. I liked the truck before and really didn't have any complaints about the shifting, but now the truck feels even better. The pedal seems more responsive and the truck will actually use 5th gear now, instead of skipping over it to downshift. The shifting also seems smoother and it's much more predictable on the highway. I highly recommend it.

Burien Toyota did it for me (covered under warranty) with minimal hassle. I just had to take a test ride with the tech. When we couldn't replicate the surge or stumble, he said he'd "take my word for it" and did the update.

I haven't yet. My service manager did the last TSB without going for a ride. I never really complained about the transmission to begin with because...it's a truck. It's going to be slow lol. I'll call them to see if I can get it scheduled sometime though.
