Who’s garage/fab shop needs a cheap gantry crane? Not sure what the load rating is, but it’s all super skookum 1/4” steel and weighs... a lot. Bit of surface rust in places, but I just replaced all the hardware with new grade 5 bolts. Fits in a taco for transport, as long as you don’t pay too much attention to payload ratings.

That's a decent looking truck and judging by the pics it's in fair shape. If they can provide maintenance records for items like water pump and timing belt being replaced ~200k it SHOULD be ready to run another 100k easily. If the last time the timing belt was replaced was 117k, it's definitely due now. A close up visual inspection of the underside and test drive should determine if it's truly worth that much. Since it's in the PNW where Tacoma's seem to be considered worth their weight in gold I could see his asking price on the HIGH end.

@Superflu 's estimate would be ideal if I was buying, but if I where selling I wouldnt take less that $8k for it.

When I bought my truck I took nada and kbb prices which nada is typicaly high and kbb is typicaly low, I went with the middle of the two when factoring a fair price. It seems to be unmolested so that's a good thing and if it's been adult owned, one could assume it's been taken care of better than 20 something yr old.

Put the VIN into the Toyota owners app to see where it originated from and if it has been to a Toyota dealer for repairs detailing repairs when and at what mileage.

Well that’s the thing, timing belt done at 117k by previous owner as it was done at Toyota and never the water pump(at least no indication). Spark plugs and brakes done awhile ago.

I checked it out the frame looks good, the body is probably a 7/10. The rear corner looks like there was a dent and someone tried to pull it out but left a bunch of tiny 1/8”. Given the windshield is cracked and needing the timing belt changed/water pump and most likely a new battery to me drops the price quite a bit. And also no fluid differential fluid changes by current owner who has owned it for the last 40k miles.

Of course I can do everything myself maintenance wise besides fixing the windshield. But factoring that into the price some.

The water pump and timing belt would be most important to be with that many miles. Any idea on origin of the truck? Did it come from the East coast? Or has it been a PNW truck it's whole life? Shit, I'd low ball him, worst he'll say is no, or give you a counter offer. It sounds like you've already got a few things to talk him down about.

    At $10k you're into decent early 2nd gen price range. Unless you've got a hard-on for a 1st gen.

I'm pretty sure that's a non interference engine so you can replace the timing belt when it brakes. Not ideal but its not like 'piston meet valve'...
It looks like a nice 4x4 double cab 1st gen.
I would laugh at y'all for offering anything but asking price if this was mine

It’s been a PNW area truck it’s whole life. Yeah didn’t seem like he wanted to go below 9 (I didn’t make an offer that was just brought up) so I’ll just wait and see. Hard to pay that much when there are a few nice extended cabs on here in CA for close to the same price. With half the mileage. But the double cab would be pretty nice.

It is a non-interference engine. Although possible limited damaged would be done, the timing belt does stretch over time and can cause problems. The engine felt strong though. Might have to take another test drive up a hill/freeway

    Yeah theyre non interference.

Ultimately it's worth what someone will pay for it, and has cash on hand. For someone who would need to finance, I don't know of bank or cu that would lend on that based on age and mileage. That will narrow your buyer interest down a bit. Sounds like the owner doesn't need it and depending on the situation may be more willing to come down on price, or not.

Ah there it is, "I'd laugh at you." Why does everyone feel the need to make a comment like this?

I'm sorry, the 3.4 is a reliable motor, sure. But it doesn't last forever. 250k miles is 250k miles. It's not "low for the year" it's not "low for a toyota" it's high miles.

Market value for a DEALER is 10k at that mileage. Meaning they'll take the first offer at 9k.
A reasonable private party starting price would then be 7,500 to 8,000 and you take the first 6,500 to 7,000.
