Oregon/Washington Craigslist Ads

Tons of info over on IH8Mud too. The vast majority of spare parts are also no longer made by Toyota. Lots of aftermarket support for things like bumpers, suspension, etc. but a window motor goes out? Too bad. Trim piece needs to be replaced? Good luck. Some of the side glass might also be hard to come by. LC80's were made in Venezuela until 2008, but I doubt they have a ton of spare parts down there, and good luck getting them.

Add to that the RHD were produced in fewer numbers overall, and the 1HD-T was never brought over here to begin with, and it starts looking like a huge money pit. Like, plan on a 4BT/tranny swap at some point if you have any engine or transmission trouble.

They do tend to last 300,000+ miles, so I may be blowing the spare parts thing out of proportion a bit. But it makes me hesitant to rely on it for everyday transportation. It would be super cool to own one and drive it, but you really have to go "all in".

Good to know.... I started looking at them a few months ago as I started to see many import into Oregon and the price seems right unless you get a lemon, bad luck or just beat the living hell out of it. I just started researching them and it’s probably another potential project I’ll back burner for awhile but damn that diesel is so tempting.

 

If I could insure the thing, I'd probably still be moving forward with it.

Anyone in the PNW have a Silver Streak Mica 2nd gen without a hood scoop that wants one? I hate the hood scoop! I'd be open to one that's wrapped satin or flat black too!

 

I honestly couldn't think of a reason... maybe keep it low for MPG's... but then raise it up when you arrive at your campsite, to avoid the flood waters or cougars...

 

I could see it for easier access to bed. Similarly to the small offroad trailers that have the gas struts that allow the RTT to angle upwards to one side.

My buddy just built a rack for his RTT, but large packs (which he often carries for SAR) no longer fit well over the bedsides. Having the option to push a button and lift it up would make that easier, then lower down before driving off.

Not saying I'd pay money for it, but... it could be useful!

 

Again, I am no expert, but were I to guess I would assume better vantage point to shoot... yes you guessed it... Graboids! Or more likely Shriekers.

my tent is mounted pretty low. Sometimes I'm trying to put something in the bed and it just won't fit because of tent. That's the best reason i can think of.

JK, sweet looking truck. I seriously miss my 2008 4Runner with that 4.7L. One of the few cars I miss getting rid of. Tell your bud, GLWS.
