Honestly, there are so many variables at play when it comes to tires it's really hard to give good advice. Lots of people swear by one tire or another but naturally haven't tried much or anything else because tires last awhile, and any good A/T will be a big improvement from stock. Also, everyone has different priorities. Of course M/Ts or more aggressive A/Ts will do better in the mud. Of course those same tires will be worse in the wet because of the big gaps between the tread blocks. And then there's pressure, which can play a huge role in any conditions.

Plus it's pointless to try and compare tires that you've had on two different vehicles(unless maybe one was utter garbage). In fact, I even currently have two of the tires from that list on my vehicles and couldn't tell you which is better, K02s on my 3rd gen Taco, and AT3s on my Range Rover Classic. I mean, I break traction unexpectedly more often in the wet or gravel with the K02s, but they're attached to a pickup with a light rear end that's RWD by default and the AT3s are attached to an SUV that's full time four wheel drive with a limited slip in the center diff, so of course it's more planted in the wet. On the contrary, the KO2s have gotten me further on muddy trails, but the Tacoma has a locker and ATRAC and the Rover has open diffs front and rear. I hear more road noise from the KO2s, but I can't hear much of anything over the wind noise and uncorked V8 in the Rover.

I've had KO2s both on my 3rd gen Taco as I mentioned and a 2nd gen 4Runner and I've been really happy with them on both. I've experienced the rain thing but I think it's being blown out of proportion. It only happens if it's really slick out and I'm a bit too liberal with the throttle going uphill around a corner. Never happened in the 4Runner where it was impossible to be too liberal with the throttle. It's not like it just randomly breaks loose. More importantly I've never had any traction issues while stopping. Over time I've heard by far the most good things about the K02 as an all-around off-road capable tire among multiple communities in the overland/off road sphere and very few complaints or horror stories, and without good instrumented testing that's as good as I've got to go by.

That being said, I've also had zero complaints with the AT3s, so there's some helpful advice for you. I'd bet that any of the tires you see a significant number of people swear by are pretty good and past that it's splitting hairs.

I agree it is overblown. I've had two sets of KO2s. Yes they aren't great on wet pavement, but I only lose traction when I am driving too fast around a corner. On the freeway at high speed I do not lose traction. It is a good all around tire and works well in the snow. But you do not want the KO2 if you want a good mud tire.

I've used others like the Cooper ATP, AT3 XLT, and my Lexus GX just got a set of Yokohama X-AT. I like to try out different tires.

I don't feel like I'm over blowing it. Wet roads was fine, but if I hit any standing water, I was all over the place. On the freeway, if it was raining really hard I was the guy drafting the semi trucks. I had the let them blow the water away, if not I was white knuckle driving.
BFG KO2 was the only tire I've ever had this kind of issue with. I sold the tires with 90% left on them.

Anyone interested in a set of 285/75r16 KO2s with 85-90% tread left? I want to get the new Yokohama M/Ts but need these gone first.

These seat covers are still available and selling the truck itself too if anyone is interested: https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/seattle-2017-toyota-tacoma-dclb-4x4/6975855608.html

I'd also consider a swap for stock + cash for the suspension/wheels/tires if someone has a good offer.
