They came up with a fancy solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

 

They just straight up didn't understand both why Hi-Lift jacks are popular and why people try to avoid using them. They're a good thing to have in a recovery kit because they're cheap and versatile, and make a good stand in while you save for a winch or an emergency backup to one, or tool to use in conjunction with a winch but should be avoided because they're a bit treacherous to use. This thing doesn't have as as many uses, and still doesn't address the biggest safety concern. Great, it protects against exceeding the working limit. Hi-lifts have a 7000 pound capacity, good luck exceeding that and I've never heard of a non-abused or cheapo one just failing. They're treacherous because you're lifting a heavy vehicle on loose and uneven terrain and this thing will topple over too if you're not being careful. If you want something while you save for a winch great news! You can buy an excellent winch for $800 or if you want backup for a winch you can even literally buy a backup winch to bring lol. Edit: besides as eye candy to bolt to your lifted, locked armored rig that doesn't have a single pinstripe

It's like ARB knows they're the Apple of the off road aftermarket but can't decide if they want to be Apple at their best, building products that are expensive and might not look like a great value compared to the competition on the spec sheet, but are very well built from high quality materials and are thoughtfully designed with a level of attention to detail above and beyond the competition, making them worth the price as a product that'll be a joy to use and last many years or Apple at its worst making shockingly priced items that nobody needs even if they are over engineered and well made just because they know people will buy them anyway.

I type this from a MacBook Pro that I bought in the summer of 2012 and has been used daily since without a single hiccup, including surviving our years of the hard use seen by a college student's laptop and thousands of miles bouncing down trails in the dusty interior of a 2nd Gen 4Runner, followed by thousands more in a Range Rover Classic and a Tacoma. I could've bought a laptop with a better processor for less money, but I can pretty much guarantee they wouldn't still be serving me reliably and performing well sorta like how the Summit isn't the cheapest hunk of steel that'll accept a winch and protect your truck from a careless deer but knowing that if the worst happens your airbags will deploy with the precise timing that an SRS system needs to function properly isn't something you can put a price on. But then no matter how well made and engineered a damn monitor stand or hi-lift jack is there's absolutely no good reason for anyone to spend $700+ on one.

 

Thanks guys, I appreciate the honest feedback. That's the type of info I was looking for. I don't want to screw anyone over and I also don't want them sitting in my garage for months. I'll probably list all 5 of them for $600 on CL and offer anyone on TW a discount.

 

My bud has one of the first in PNW; hasn't seen the side of a slider or dirt since purchase... at least not while I've been around...

Goodyear Duratracs. 265/75r16 load C. 14-15/32” on all 4. Nice even wear. I had them on my Tacoma for about 7k miles, just switched to something more highway friendly for a longer commute. Listed Locally for $600. TW discount $550. In Spokane but I’ll be in Seattle next Wednesday evening if they don’t sell locally first I can bring them with me. I have more pictures if anyone is interested.

 

Not sure if we can post up somewhat non-truck related things here but I have a Yeti 105 I'm trying to get rid of for $300. Figured it's outdoorsy enough for this group of folks. I'm located in Eugene, OR. Nothing wrong with the cooler it's just too high to fit flush with my truck bed. Bought it on sale so I'm selling it on sale (cheaper than a new Rtic).
