How is a 255 width WIDER than a 265 width? The 255/85r16 would be 0.8" taller than the 265/75r16, but not wider. Looking at the Cooper ST/Maxx for example:
    255/85r16
    Diameter: 32.8"
    Sect. width: 10.2"
    tread width: 8.2"
    58 lbs.

    265/75r16
    Diameter: 32.0" (-0.8")
    Sect. width: 10.5" (+0.3")
    tread width: 8.4" (+0.2")
    56 lbs.
Nearly a full inch shorter, but marginally thinner in both tread and section width. Weight savings is non-existent though between these two size (both LR-E)

I expect that when the first guy said 255's, he meant 285's.

Whatcha go and do that for? There are easier ways to inspect the frame.

Any interest in 17 inch Sport wheels? I am currently running 265/70/17 Grabber AT2's that have good tread on them. I'm curious about getting yours and going from 17 inch wheels to the 16s you have. Current suspension setup is ICON coilovers with 750 springs barely cranked, ICON UCA's, Icon 2.0 rear shocks with Dakar HD leaf pack and Sumo Spring bumps.

Ha! Come with at REI with me lol

I want to run it for a while and see if I like it. The price was too good not to buy. I plan on hooking it up to a lithium battery pack, not hardwiring it to my truck.

I just don’t have the troubles like a lot of you guys with 285’s.

The second gen with the 6spd doesn’t give me any issues with the 285’s lol

I still average 17-18 mpg as well

Man, I wish I could get that with my 6spd 2nd gen. Granted I am running 295/75R16 and have steel bumpers but I'm lucky to get 14.5mpg on the highway :spending:

Yeah, if they reused your SR wheel TPMS. 4runner TMPS part number is not the same as the tacoma and does not work.

I have 285s, front/rear bumper, sliders and a lift and I get 19mpgs from my auto. I've hit 22 on the freeway before, fully loaded with my family and camping gear too. Tire pressure and non-winter gas makes a huge difference.

Confirms what I posted, the 255 is taller but narrower, not wider than the 265.

He did say they were .4” when I asked, so technically they are wider.

    That’s legit. When I had my 17 SR5 with 265’s I was only averaging 16. Which sucked.

3rd gens are weird because the auto transmission, it takes a while to learn your driving habits. I was initially getting 15-16mpg bone stock and in the winter, I was getting 12-13mpgs. I thought it was an error but i did the hand calculations and it was right. It eventually got better and even with the winter blend gas right now I'm getting 17-17.5 mpgs right now. I had a new 4 runner as a loaner for a month or so and the best it got was 15-16 stock...realized it would be getting v8 numbers once it was modded :/
