That's super tempting. For those with more knowledge than I, if I just have a regular Leer canopy, would it be strong enough to support sleeping in that?

There should be a way to look up your canopys weight limit. Maybe by model number if you can find the manufacture plate.

 

I'm wondering the same. My buddy has a RTT on his regular leer canopy but its beginning to show stress cracks. Not sure how much lighter, if any this tent is, he has a giant tent on his

 

Weight limit also takes into consideration which rack/track system is used. From what is in other posts, 150-200 is about what the non-commercial Leer cap takes with factory installed rack. If I would be putting up & using a RTT on it, Id build a bed cage that mounts to the rails and supports the roof.

 

The Tent weighs 120. Found this on Leer: When factory-installed on a LEER Model 100XQ, 100XL, 100XR, 100R, 100RCC, 180, 180CC, or 122, the Thule AeroBlade has a maximum load capacity of 220 lbs. and Tracker II Roof Rack systems have a maximum load capacity of 165 lbs. There are other critical factors when safely carrying and securing loads to your roof rack and dash - always refer to the owner's manual provided with your Thule roof rack prior to use.

What does that mean if you’re sleeping in the tent? If the maximum load is 220, that covers the tent but it would put a ton of stress on it with a fat ass 220lb dude and my 70lb dog up there lol

 

Means the dog gets to sleep in the tent, you get to sleep in the bed.

 

Just checked mine and I was incorrect, it's an ARE looks to be a V series. No weight capacity limit available online. @JimSnell think you could rig up a support system underneath a canopy?

Typically that is a “dynamic load” rating, as you drive around on the road and the g forces associated with it. A common practice is to double the dynamic load to get a “static load” limit when parked.

So if you have a 220 dynamic limit, it’s upwards of 440 static. 440-120 = 320 lbs net. Not a lot of capacity for a big guy (I’m 235 in my birthday suit for example) and his GF/wife. And certainly not enough if subjecting the thing to “oscillations”.....

 

If the rigs’a’oscillating, don’t come a kno-. Infiltrating? Doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

 

Don’t know much about the RTT game, besides seeing a lot of CVTs out here. Are they a reputable Co? Good products/customer service?
