Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
Unless it's being stolen by a pro with the intention of shipping it south of the border where sticks are still pretty common.

But yeah, it'll probably keep a 20-something from stealing it and taking it out for a joyride.

Yes it is true. Hold down the lock button and press the unlock button twice. it turns off the RF key fob. You can then try it afterwards, by walking up to your truck and trying to open the door by grabbing onto the handle as usual, and it will not unlock. Once it is turned off, you then have to use the keyfob to unlock the truck by just pressing the unlock button. This will then unlock the truck and it also by default, then turns the RF Key Fob back on.

Yeah! That happened to me the first time I turned off my keyfob. The next morning, I went outside to my truck, grabbed the handle, and it didn't unlock. I'm like "WTF"? Then, I remembered that I had turned off the keyfob the day before. Clicking the unlock button got me back in business. Honestly I have never turned off my keyfob since. I just don't remember to do it. But it is nice that the option is there.

I store my primary and spare in an RF-blocking Silent Pouch from Amazon at home, for this exact reason... however, as previously stated, if thieves want something badly enough, they're going to get it regardless of how many countermeasures are put in place.

I was just going to ask if there is a product that is designed to store keyfobs and block all signals from leaving.

This seems likes the ideal solution, you come home and put your keys in this product and then you’re safe (from this type of attack anyway). You don’t loose any convenience because you can still just walk up and grab the handle to unlock without having to turn fobs on an off.

Another question I’d have is how to confirm the product is actually blocking ALL signals? Not sure I’d trust the marketing team’s word.

The "product" you're looking for is called a faraday cage.

Agreed - I too was relieved to discover this product, as I didn't want to lose any functionality either. Unsure if the pouch truly blocks full-spectrum, however, I can confirm that the fobs are invisible to my truck once sealed, i.e., the truck is completely oblivious I'm next to it when the fobs are in the pouch.

Hold down the lock button and quickly press unlock two times, you will see your key fob flash a couple times and then it goes dark. This turns off the fob and it can’t be hacked that way. To reuse it just simply touch any button and it’ll turn it back on and you’ll be able to unlock the car with it. You should do this with your spare fob also to save the battery.I just get in the habit of doing it all the time whenever I’m away from my car.

I know we’re on TW but Mazda makes Miatas. Honda makes some of the other best selling cars in the world. Just saying...

I have a small aluminum box (which basically acts like a faraday cage) that all our remote keys go into when we get home. Sadly no manufacturing tags or anything and I don’t remember where we got it.

Got an rf blocking pouch from Amazon and it only lasted a couple months. One day, walked out to the truck and it unlocked from the door handle while the key was in the pouch. I guess everyone’s best bet is to shut the fob off.
