I'm curious: Is there a way to find out what brand and model tires came with your Tacoma when new? For instance, I have a 2002 base 4x4. The sales brochure says that it comes with P225/75R15 All-Season radials, but gives no other information. Does anyone have this info?

    ANSWER:

Tirerack.com seems to have this information. Type in your vehicle info, and up will pop the Original Equipment tire—at least in my case, which turned out to be BFGoodrich Rugged Trail T/A's.

May not help, but I was able to look up a lot of info on my truck here: https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle

Funny you ask this question, because I was thinking this very thing a few hours ago and was planning on signing in to see if this info was there...it wasn't, unfortunately.

    PDF brochure

You listed the size so I looked it up at the back in specs... Then saw a TRD model in the pictures which also used this size with the BFG's..

This was a popular factory tire

My 2002 F150 had a set on it when I got it in 2008.. 32k km on it..

So I've heard, from several sources. You guessed correctly, I was thinking about getting stock tires, whatever they were, but with how terrible the Trails are, that seems like a bad idea. I'm thinking about the Rugged Terrains.

It seems to be pretty much the general consensus. They're popularly known as Rugged Fails. Poor performance, rapid wear—I'm not sure I've heard anyone say anything good about them.

Give the man a prize. According to Tirerack.com, you are indeed correct.

    Well.

They aren't to bad of a tire if you use them accordingly..

The tire in question is not good in the snow, but it gets you good gas mileage... And the tire doesn't spit stones.

If you are looking for something similar, try the Firestone Transforce A/T2

They only come in LT, but are lighter than most LT..

Like a set in 245/75/16 is around 42lbs and its E rated..

I've run these tires for years on my GM's, for the fact they come the 17/32's of tread.. Are of the ribbed design, and spit 0 stones on gravel roads..
