The rear of my tonneau cover, closest to the tailgate doesn't seal very tight. Like not tight at all. It is latched, but I can lift it maybe 1/4 inch so water and dust get in. Is there an adjustment or a way to tighten it so when it closes its tighter?

    Many thanks!

I've read and heard of this mysterious 2nd click but have never experienced.

    1. Close tailgate
    2. Close tonneau
    3. Push to hear 2nd click?

    Is this the correct sequence?

You pretty much need to do #2 and #3 in order. #1 is probably best done first but certainly not a requirement.

Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.
Close tonneau. Then push down directly over the latch points (on the bed rails) until you hear a click. That's the best you can do normally.

I had this problem! The latches on the tonneau cover that lock to the bed rail have a plastic insert in them. I found one laying in the bed and didn't know what it was so I threw it in one of the little cubbies back there. When I tried to close the tonneau there was a lot of play and I could lift it up a little when it was "locked". I was gettin pissed so I looked at the other latches and they had the insert in it... I grabbed that back out the cubbie and put it in the latch and now it fits snug and locks immediately. Check to see if you're missing the plastic insert in the latch that doesn't fit snug!

This is what I was referring to. The first picture shows the latch with plastic cover over it. The second picture shows the plastic cover removed. When the plastic cover is removed, I notice that the latch has a little play in it both horizontally and vertically. The plastic cover restricts that motion.

Ok, thanks. My truck is only about 3 weeks old, and with the amount of rain we get here (New Orleans) leakage has already been an issue. I'll take a look and make sure none of my plastic covers are missing.

These OEM tonneau's are not completely waterproof stock. Granted it does keep out 95% of water in my experience. If I was really worried about it, I'd lay down a small adhesive weatherstrip along the bed where the tonneau meets the bed rail. That should completely keep any water out.

Place your palm directly over the latch when closed and push hard. It should click. Don't adjust anything else. It will require a bit of pressure for the first few times till the rubber weather seal conforms and makes it easier, but you will need to push it with your palm every time and requires you to walk to both corners. Mine requires it, but it's more secure than that 1/4" floppy lid. Water still trickles in at the front and the folds, but not the rear.

OP, I have the same issue. My factory tonneau seems to allow a little water in from all sides. I've just learned to live with it. If I have something I need 100% dry I put it in the cab. However, I like that the tonneau protects from theft, direct sunlight, and getting totally drenched.

Also - a bed mat keeps stuff up off any small amounts of water that do get in. That plus a couple cardboard trays from Costco or Sams does a great job with small stuff like shopping bags and so forth.

If I had anything I'd regularly keep in the bed I'd use a sealing container from the myriad suggestions in the entire thread dedicated to the topic.

If I needed true waterpoofing I'd get a single-piece tonneau or a cap or I'd have just stuck with a SUV.

If you have a 1/4 inch play then you have not hit the "2nd Click" as described. I MUST do this every time I close my factory cover. I have to push kind of hard just forward of the raised bumpstop on the panel and it will click down tight. I initially messed with the shims and once you take it out it WILL NOT CLOSE. Good luck.

I did the same with the shims. It's pointless. Doesn't allow for the double action latching mechanism to work properly.

    or just slam it.
I've noticed a few times if I just dropped it closed from a decent height it would lock all the way
