Us cool guys gotta stick together!!

I hate chrome. I went to great lengths to get it all off of my OffRoad Tacoma since there's lots of it from the factory. All that's left is the rear bumper and if I don't get a new bumper I'm going to at least derp it his summer. So tired of chrome.

I was #24 on that wait list but I had some LED left over from the bed light I made so I decided to just make my own and save a few bucks & some time. His kit looks like it's pretty solid and should be pretty easy to install too.

Meh, I'm good. HID & stock housings works just fine for me.

Swapped out the last piece of chrome on my truck last week... yea! Replaced the stock rear bumper & hitch with a Relentless Fabrication rear bumper powder coated black:

Santa Cruz makes the electric lock & buttstock bracket. You'll have to get creative from that point if you want one of your own.

And the mods just keep coming....

Got a killer deal on an Infinity Kappa 5ch amp so I decided to go ahead and upgrade my audio system in my truck. En route is a couple of CS Series speaker sets from Kicker since they make a decent 6x9 component setup for the money and matched a pair of 6.5" for the rear doors. Also have a JL Audio 10w3v3 on it's way too. Planning to enlist my buddy from CarToys to help with the customer sub box that will go on the back wall between the seats in the factory option sub location. Most of this will show up today and tomorrow and I plan to install it Friday. If all goes well I should have some decent sounding tunes by the weekend!

Here's the amp that just arrived:

I'll post pics of the rest as it arrives over the next couple of days.

I didn't post any pics of the install yet because they were out of the carpet that would match my interior so the box looks like poo right now. I'll post a few pics of the install that I took and one of the finished product sans carpeting to get an idea. I'll throw up some pics once it's carpeted too.

Here's the rear door speakers. Not ideally how I wanted to install them but being as this truck (all 2009 & up Access Cabs I think) had no provisions for rear door speakers we had to improvise. I plan to make a cloth speaker grill eventually that will replace that plastic grill and sit more flush to look more factory. These speakers are just rear fill anyway so it was more for balance than overall sound.
    C3gn4T_fvE316MWOVi_t1SN3mSIf0y9_JTTyuYv3_9734ddf1e3b64f7b222a79a64a68fa1e258c524b.jpg

Up next is the amp mounted under the driver's seat as well as the factory option subwoofer taken off of the rear wall and the rear center console removed. We decided to put a box in that was rear facing and sat on the floor as opposed to mounted on the back wall. The reason was that 1) it was easier and covered up the ugly space left behind by the center console missing and what was underneath and 2) once carpeted it will be perfect height for someone sitting back there to rest their arm on. A wall mounted box would have made sitting in the back incredibly awkward even for small trips as the person would have to sit almost sideways in what is already an uncomfortable seat.
    20140829_135634_8faf7b5a2f2a8410da4c08bd3627755ba5ff83cb.jpg

Here's a picture (ignore the messy floor) of the box pre-carpet where you can get an idea how it will look since the seats will likely be down most of the time since they tend to block the air movement on either side of the box. You can see where it is spaced back from the back wall and the height is perfect for resting your arm on if you're unfortunate enough to have to sit back there. lol
    20140904_094812_dde2a9903c7ef601310f80bafde1305b54b0dc2f.jpg

One more shot w/the seat folded up so you can see how the box was made. It's basically a square box with two 'feet' towards the back wall to stand off enough to get air movement and then two more 'feet' on the bottom to make up the part that stands on the floor. You can clearly see the square box and then the additional pieces used to mount it up in the cab. It's easy to remove should I need to for room but if anything I have more room than I had before with the other items that were mounted in there and I finally got that goofy looking subwoofer off of the back wall. Still need to figure out what to cover those holes with. Thinking maybe a TRD plaque or something.
    20140904_094800_576ae5ee2f88fb53255602559345a09f7de39a47.jpg

The carpet we picked will most closely match the plastic tray underneath the seat. I prefer darker speaker box carpet to lighter and to me this looked the best when we were holding up all the little scrap pieces. The next closest would have been a little bit lighter than the carper on the seat itself which was just too light IMO and woulda looked odd. We thought about vinyl but that woulda been a PITA to wrap and more fragile which I want to avoid since I use my truck for truck things. :D

Also, I had some issues w/the Infinity Amp I installed. They're going to send me another new one to replace this one but in the meantime I decided to install a NVX JAD900.5 5-channel amp in it's place. It had some features I liked, makes a little more power and does so from a smaller package & the Kappa stuck out just a little bit more than I would have liked so I decided to give it a try. The open box amp I got was DOA though and drops the front channel in & out plus the sub channel isn't 100% either so I'm going to have to swap this one too. Not having too much luck with amps right now but that's the risk you take when you buy refubs & open box. I normally have good luck but this time it bit me twice. Both are going to replace with brand new as opposed to refurb or open box so after some delay it should work out just fine.

Here's the NVX installed and the Infinity below it after I traded them out:
    20140918_150737-1_4d6642bc05789b96f24580f5dd8f5cd1a36d49dc.jpg

I thought I had taken a photo of the box after it was carpeted but I can't find it now. I'll have to get one to post up when I get a chance.
