OTRATTW Switches and Wiring

I wired my light to the shifter lights, when I turn on headlights, my switch lights up, during day use, its not lit. I mounted mine in exact location as this gentlemen (Quoted below) except I didnt rotate mine 90 degrees. I love that sopt.

Put mine in exact same spot, makes using light bar on highway a breeze to turn on and off, its a natural position. My arm on the arm rest, finger tips on the switch!

Can't get away with anything like that on my truck, my dog surfs the console and would be hitting all sorts of switches on me haha!

My first modification to my Tacoma. I have never done auto wiring before so this was a learning experience… I added OTRATTW switches to my center console on my 2013 Tacoma Double Cab. I spliced my PIAA lights and connected them to the console controls. I will be doing the same for my LED bed lights and seat heaters when I get them from Wet Okole… Will post more photos as I progress…

The first photo shows the final product.

Photo 2 shows the console cover removed. There are 6 holes where the cover snaps into place(top corner, middle, and bottom corner). I used a plastic detailing tool to pry the cover off.

Photo 3 shows the console cover. I traced around the OTRATTW switches w/ mounting brackets on a piece of paper. I then cut out the template and drew it on my center console. I used a dremel to cut out the holes. I then used a box cutter to trim around the edges to make cleaner cuts.

Photo 4 shows the drive gear cover. I placed the switches and mounts into the center console cover. I them placed the console back in place and found where the switches were hitting. I traced what I needed to trim back off the gear cover. Once again I used a dremel to make the cuts.

Photo 5 shows the bottom of the console near the driver seat belt lock. The switches were hitting here as well so I cut a notch to make them fit.

Photo 6 shows a ground wire location. I found a ground already in the center console. I used this to ground my wires.

Photo 7 shows my green grounding wire I used.

Photo 8 shows my grounding wiring. I used 18g wire for my electrical. The photo is the bottom of the console cover with the OTRATTW switches and mounts in place. I got the 2 color top/bottom switches. This wiring is what the directions from OTRATTW said to do but I was unable to get the switches to work. DON'T do it this way because it doesn't work. Photo 10 will show the correct wiring I used.

Photo 9 shows I bought an "Add a Fuse/Circuit" from a location car shop. I put this into my fuse box and was able to run the power to my switches from there. It is the red wire extending into the center console.

Photo 10 shows half of my wiring. The GREEN wire is GROUND. RED is POWER from my fuse box. BLACK wires which are not photographed I used as my source from my lights. I connected all my ground wires together and placed them on the top two prongs on each switch. The red (power) wires were connected together and connected on the bottom prong (This gives power to the lower LED in the switch). I am currently running another power wire to the prong next to it to provide power to the upper LED on the switches.

Photo 11 shows the console back in place with the switches installed.

Photo 12 shows the truck on and switches working.

Hope this helps anyone with ideas or trying to do this to their own truck. And like I said, this was my first time trying a wiring project... More photos to follow when I install my LED bed lights...
