We use a VVT schedule that provides similar part throttle output as the SFOB tunes.

    Yes!

That’s what actually surprised me the most, way more power but MPGs were actually better than when my truck was stock. I noticed the engine starts quicker too and that power surge at 3500k RPMs is gone, it’s smooth throughout the RPM range. There is an occasional “buck” or two when in second gear at like 1000ish RPMs while giving it quarter or so throttle, doesn’t bug me though.

Now with 33s, lift and 650# of constant weight, I’m still able to get advertised MPGs if driving conservative. IMHO Atkinson cycle idea was a complete fail. Thank you mr OV Tune!

I get that same little "bump" at low RPM 's too. Once I got used to it I was able to work around it for the most part. I'm running 6112-5160's and around 2 3/4" of lift. 285/70/17 nitto Terra's, which have the lowest rolling resistance of any tire I've ever dealt with. 44.5lbs apiece. I'm still getting 22+ MPG's on 55-60 mph roads with the OTT tune. Very happy.

I’ve tried multiple different tunes with an MT and honestly, I can not tell a power difference between any of them or stock. They all felt mostly the same, but with slightly different amounts of throttle sensitivity…that’s about it. Obviously stock throttle sensitivity was much different but the overall power felt the same. Anyways, I decided on stock after spending lots of money and time on tunes. :notsure: Many folks are happy with their tunes, especially OTT, so I am the odd man out.

But, I did regear and that made a huge difference in a positive way, so I stuck with that for my use.

My truck drove just fine on a stock tune to be honest, my biggest complaint was poor throttle response for rev matching.

Quite a few guys were raving about this tune on TW so I decided to try it. I’ll tell you for sure that im not going back.:)

When I had stock gears, I was happy enough with tune life. Now that I’m considerably lower than stock, the tunes being eager to get moving make it really hard to control my low 1st gear at times. I am certainly capable of driving it normally with gears + tune but it’s just a lot more effort on my part. I am much more smooth with stock and as long as I rev it to where it makes some power, I have no complaints. I just find it a lot easier to drive on stock calibration.

I do want to swap to the RC60F/RC61F transmission eventually for even lower 1-2-3-R and taller 5-6. But that’s far in the future, if ever.

Check this out. This is before adjusting for MPG's for tire size. Central Michigan flatland. I'd be shocked if elevation changes 5ft the whole trip. One town, 3 stoplights and 6 stop signs. 55-60 mph. This is after the OTT tune. Very happy.

I get 24 mpg regularly in my stock truck and average over 12mpg when towing a 5k TT.
I considered a tune but I’m happy with the power, just need to rev it. Biggest thing would be getting 3rd gear to lock up 100%, that I’d pay for. Can cruise in 5th, 1,700rpm @63mph whilst towing quite comfortably.

This dash screenshot was driving from Bend, OR to Reno, NV on one tank, 3.7 gallons remaining. Plenty of hills, got 24mpg on the return too.

This was towing a 5klb TT from Spokane, WA to Bend, Or. plenty of hills too.

24mpg for a stock AT doesn't shock me and is really good too. I can't tell you what I would have gotten stock as I lifted it shortly after I bought it new. I very probably wouldn't have gotten my tune with the MT if I hadn't bought my camper. I wasn't unhappy with the way the truck drove before. Now that I did I wouldn't go back. The extra torque between 2000-3000rpm is a game changer.

I towed 8k miles last year and the biggest issue I have with this truck is 3rd gear not locking up.

I’m from England and have driven manuals my whole life but I was unable to get the truck
I wanted in a manual so I went with the auto, had I realised I would buy a camper a couple of years later I may have bought a different config and got a manual. 3rd gear not locking is a big thing but the truck towing did fine, just need to set expectations and understand where this truck makes it’s power and understand the torque converter. On my dashboard above, the red circle behind the gear turns green when the TC is locked. This helps considerably with mpg and temps.

I haven't had a chance to get a good read on my MPG's pulling my camper yet. I've only done an 80mi round trip with it so far but I can say it pulls it way better. It looks like it'll be around a 2mpg gain. Before I had to do kinda like you, rev it. I had to stay in 4th, which is 1/1 and it pulled ok. After the tune I can pull in 5th, which is the first overdrive, and I can actually accelerate. Had a slight headwind too. The instant mpg guage told me I wasn't straining the engine at all. That will make a big difference pulling on the highway at higher RPM. If it was me I'd have a conversation with Justin about that converter lockup and see if there's anything they can do for you.

That's some golden good stuff right there - thank you!

But a question then. My cross over pipe where the exhaust runs under the transmission, it's pretty pinched through there - from the factory. Are you saying that's OK too? If so I'm glad but also surprised and amazed.

Are all 6MT OTT tunes SFOB or is it an optional “thing” on request?

Also I am a little unclear with all the acronyms and such that get thrown around; is OTT the specific tune, and OV Tune is the tuner, or are they separate beasts?

    Who were you scheduled with?
All OTT tunes use the same VVTi mapping, it's no extra or special feature that needs to be requested.

OTT is a separate brand/tune than the OVTune (including the SFOB variant).

That's really good mpgs. I'd say it's apples to oranges though. MPG's adjusted for tire size difference it's actually 22.6. My truck is lifted almost 3" with 33" tires. I did do my research.
