im going to try and check out some trails out around Calabogie. saw a guy post up a nice trail around Waburn lake I think it was. it was a long enough trail that he camped there over night. I would like to do more weekend trips around this area this summer. I think most trails are about 2hours away-ish so head out Saturday morning, wheel for a few hours then set up camp and just enjoy the outdoors for the night

Also, OP is still active on here just not every day like me :anonymous:

The backroad mapbook is good. Mine is somewhat out of date (its a few years old), but it gives you an idea of some roads in your area that you may not have been aware of. I like it, it does take some work to look through and explore. I have exploring trails around my new place and some of the roads that are suppose to be unpaved 'backroads' are paved. Still some nice scenic drives though.

I will also check the TCAT from gravel trail to see if they have anything out that way other than the swisha loop.

It depends, while I was orginizing rally that we had today most of the back roads in that book ended up being private roads or gated. So don’t fully trust that book, but it’s a nice referral guide.

I know a lot of the trails up past the hydro damn and it just happens i am moving to Pembroke in a few weeks so I will be back in the area and can show ppl a few spots. If i recall the start of the wabun lake trail can be pretty intimidating right up the hill at the trailhead by the lake... it's been a few years since i've been in there..

Any of you Ottawa crew interested in some Falken Wildpeak AT3W's in 265/75r16? I put them on late fall for the winter and plan to go back to my favourite Toyo MT 255's this summer. I want the 33.5 inch height! had them on a 2dr JK and they were great. I always praise the Cooper 255's also as I had the ST and the ST Maxx but just gonna go all out for the Toyo's again. Anyway the Falkens have around 10000km all on pavement use and are in perfect condition with no plugs or cuts or any visible wear.

I should add relating to my posts above... for the nearly new Falkens I will be looking for $550CDN for the set of 4.

Regarding the Calabogie area beyond the damn I know a few spots that are great for camping that are Tacoma accessible!

I would be happy to lead a ride up the hydro line this spring, basically from the damn down to near Bon Echo provincial park. It is a nice drive and not overly rough. Last time I was in there there was a lot of work being done to the main access road all the way past the Crag lake trail entrance but i believe the work stopped at a busy hunt camp bridge... i hope anyway, it was too smooth for my liking

im game haha I joined OF4WD and it looks like there are some more trails/camping West of Bon Echo. looks like there is an entrance around the 62 (cooper rd and Bannockburn rd) and heads east to the 41 and comes out at the 506/41 (Hunt Rd) about half way you can head North towards Lingham Lake conservation reserve or take a different trail North that head up into another series of trails with a camp spot on crown land half way.

Good call joining OF4WD, I believe once a paid member you get the details for all of the known trails? I used to get out wheeling a little with OVO & EOTB, but that was almost 10 yrs back.

Yes, you get all the maps, as well as what the trail is rated, updates on the condition of the trail. Also if you sign up with a club the $50 fee gets reduced drastically. This year are club paid $30 IIRC. With the amount of people we had it should have been less. Also are club doesn't make any money. The club fee is $100, and then $25 for each member after that. So we just split the $100 fee amongst the members.

Check the ontario meet and greet thread to join up for next year if you're interested.
