OH well hell. It's a truck dammit. A TRUCK! Not a luxury commuter vehicle for the kids and grandma.

And it makes a helluva tanning machine.

    Big picture-

Toyota sold over 141,000 Tacomas last year alone. We on this site account for a very small % of who they are going to market to. Most of those 141k+ people will probably prefer a more refined vehicle.

    Just sayin'

Video wasn't worth my time but my favorite BS paragraph was "Many years ago, pickup trucks were meant to be pure workhorses, but today, many serve as daily commuters—some with very luxurious accommodations and full creature comforts. It is here that the Tacoma struggles."

And basically because the Tacoma didn't have "very luxurious accommodations" and "full creature comforts" it didn't meet their recommendation criteria? Typical CR bullshit.

My other favorite line was "The interior feels cheap in places, but at least most controls are simple". I understand some of the interior does feel cheap but I fail to see any controls in the vehicle that are difficult?

Consensus says CR hired a chimpanzee to do the review.

$23,400 out the door, brand new 2010 bought in 2011. 4x4 AC, 6MT, 4.0, base + convenience package (power everything/tow package)

To get the same thing today would be higher. High enough that I would have said no and would have gone back to a Hemi Ram.

I'd wager that if they did a 100% cosmetic redesign, inside and out of the tacoma, but kept the same chasis, suspension, and drivetrain, and just gave the engine a corny name (think powerstroke, triton, boss, etc) that consumer reports would come back calling the truck "modern" and "responsive". the age of a vehicle design should not have a bearing on the review of a vehicle, and the fact that they openly mention the age as if it is a deal killer shoes a clear bias towards new designs, regardless of quality.

this theory goes for any vehicle, not just the tacoma.

But in the end anyone looking to buy a truck over an SUV, 4 door sedan, or minivan probably isn't looking to have the most plush ride vehicle manufacturers can offer. IF they were looking for that they'd go look at some $50k+ leathered/gimmicky interior full-size pickup.

    Ok 4900.00 than I.
    I'm looking at 2006-2009 4runner's, I found a 2008 4DW with 21K miles for 17K and didn't buy it. It was a 2007, I F-ed up.
    The 2006-2009 4runner's are a great buy.
    Just my 2.

    Good night and god bless

Ford Sells 400,000 F150's a year, Chevy 320,000 Silverados... if people need more room, smoother ride and a nicer interior, they can buy those.

I see the Tacoma as a "pick up" version of a Wrangler.

Got my 2013 DCLB TRD Sport 4x2 for $27,800. 35k would be the for the Txpro/baja editions. I use my truck for work i.e. construction I carry all my tools with ease and during the weekends I use it to haul people and my toys: bikes and quads

Larger trucks. Just because the 4.0 is a shitty outdated engine doesn't mean car reports don't classify it differently

Maybe the people at CR are just pissed about the no-heated mirror thing?

+1 however my Tacoma has been used for 5 years now hauling my family and in some cases even hauled 5 people comfortably on long trips. The back seat has theatre seating which is very well liked for passengers. Bottom line, I definitely don't agree with tHis review. How bad did they bash the Frontier as far as leg room goes in a crew cab. Just saying.

So people buy exclusively on what a truck is "classified" as?

The reason the Ranger is dead and the masses still flock to the "full size" trucks is because they see value in them. Why save $2-3k when you can get so much more truck, that gets the same gas mileage, with more room, comfort, ect.
