    Yup truck still means this:

    Truck
    1. Any of various heavy motor vehicles designed for carrying or pulling loads.
    2. A hand truck.
    3. A wheeled platform, sometimes equipped with a motor, for conveying loads in a warehouse or freight yard.
    4. One of the swiveling frames of wheels under each end of a railroad car or trolley car.
    5. A set of bookshelves mounted on four wheels or casters, used in libraries.
    6. Nautical A small piece of wood placed at the top of a mast or flagpole, usually having holes through which halyards can be passed.
    7. Chiefly British A railroad freight car without a top.

    Yuppies need not apply!

What other "mid-size" is there? Dakota is dead. Ranger (small) is dead, Canyon/Colorado (small) is dead for now.

That leaves the Frontier which was a still born. Big news.... Toyota outsells Nissan.

A $30k truck is a $30k truck. Consumers buy on value, why pay more to get less?

I'm sure there are more V6 F150 buyers that cross shopped the Tacoma than you think.

Just look at the Hilux. Better interior, tucked drivetrain and the same price as a Taco. :banghead:

What I find most funny is how many Tacoma "deals" tv ad spots you dont see as compared to the others?

Way i see it, Tacoma sells itself. And for a reason.

The market drives the price, if people thought that they were paying more for less then Tacomas would be setting on the lot for months.

Sales vary by region, but around here the dealers turn over their 4x4 Tacoma inventory weekly. Obviously there are plenty of people, such as myself, that see value in a Tacoma.

What's the resale value of a V6 F150 (or any other domestic full size) vs a Tacoma. That should give you a pretty good indication of perceived value.

I have to say that the article is flawed in it's premise. I have a new 2013 Tacoma doublecab 4x4 v6 with the entune gps system. My family finds it very comfortable on trips, camping and as my daily driver. I have only EVER heard three gripes about these trucks, the MPG could be better, lack of a cargo area light, and lack of heated mirrors. Those are nice to have, but what you get is the most solid truck on the market that will go everywhere and be super dependable with great resale value and demand. Rear-seat entertainment systems and foot massagers or whatever else car makers offer these days can be added, and shouldn't be the distinguishing line between recommending vehicle and not. GREAT truck, safe truck, fun truck that could be better, but nothing is better than it now unless you go to a full size, and even then it's debatable.

I am one of those dummies but I don’t think the stoppingdistance is broken, I want to change out the drums for disks for a couple ofreasons, First I hate working on drum brakes, second they suck to work on, thirdthey are heavy compared to disk, and lastly the squeal so much and that causesme to want to work on them which by the way I hate to do.

Did I mention that I hate to work on drum brakes? Hell my mountainbike has hydo disks front and rear why can’t my truck

Nissan Frontier, Honda Ridgeline, Suzuki Equator But I see this is just leading to an internet argument. I dont care what truck anyone buys its their money. I chose my truck and I like it. Its not the best and I would trade it in a heartbeat if I got a deal on a Faptor but right now as a college kid its the best truck (IMO) that I could afford that had what I wanted. And like I've already said, too many people want a truck thats also a luxury car. So I will say you are right that people probably looked at an F150 and a Tacoma and bought the one with more options which is fine by me. As long as Toyota stays in business so I can get my free oil changes and warranty work done then I'm fine with that.

Gents, the only failure here is the source of the article. Consumer Reports is a biased magazine, and may as well be called entertainment, much like the tabloids. I had a subscription decades ago and canceled after a year as the opinions it provided were more inclined to steer rather than provide objective insight.
All you have to do is a little research. I have guys come up to me all the time asking about my truck, and telling me that there are none around for sale.
There are at least 6 Walmarts and as many Home Depots and Lowes within 30 minutes from where I live, and 22million people within a 100 mile radius. What kind of demographic do you need?
When was the last time you went up to an owner of another brand for purposes other than looking at the mods?
Beyond the mods, not much to see.

Of course they are biased. Everyone is. Ever watch the news? People are all biased, and so are we. It's just that up until now, our bias' lined up with CR's.

Since all of those trucks in the brake test are out of production, sans the Nissan, how does the Tacoma stack up against modern SUVs and trucks?

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Trucks are still regarded as pure workhorses where I come from. Buy a suv or minivan for hauling the gumps to soccer practice!

Consumer Report should recheck their review. My 07 DCLB took my family to OBX several times. Having 4x4 with two rows of seats and big bed is perfect.
First my kids can sleep in the truck bed for times when they get cranky. Second we can haul all kids beach items.
Third two carseats plus one on the back have no problems.
We usually rent homes in 4x4 area because its lower cost, so having 4x4 with biggest ground clearance stock is a pure happiness. We never got stuck in sugar sand, we never got towed away and even my wife wit her limited offroad experience can handle driving there. (great driver)
Dollar for Dollar 2gen Tacoma is probably best vehicle to buy for family trips.
Oh did I mention so far all my 500 miles trips were around 21 MPG.
To me Consumer Reports is full of $hit
    :D

I wouldn't buy my truck again.. I would get the EXACT same thing except the longer bed. That's it..

Its too bad that when Toyota upsized the Tacoma to be the same size as the 1st Gen Tundra, they didn't offer the small V8 as an option. That and a better rear suspension, would be perfect for me.

Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
i like how the bowtie and blue oval compacts stoppin is almost the same loaded and unloaded. they do loaded at like 75% rated capacity right so that would be like 2350lb for them as opposed to 4875lbs for the tacoma. and there must be a negative payload for suzuki since its stops faster loaded than unloaded.

*i now realize this is bed load so i recant the first numbers and use these instead chevy/ford 562lbs taco 1012

So if CR reviews the Camry...will they say it "makes a great family hauler, but I poor pickup truck"?

Come on...it's a truck and that's EXACTLY why I bought it!

That said...the Taco could benefit from some competition. The consumer could only would be the winner.

Wow...a truck is supposed to be a 'family' vehicle? That's news to me....

Although, I will agree....they do lack some amenities that should be basic features - like power seats. Unless they added that since 2007.

    what a joke review.

not that it hasnt been stated earlier in this thread but

    great off road
    drives decent
    i find the seating comfortable
reliable (never had a check engine light in 193,000kms or any real problems)
    resale
it hauls 4 adults just fine (doublecab)

my only complaint is the plastic bed but even that isnt a huge deal.

if they think the inteior is cheap they should test drive a frontier.
