Our New Farm Truck

    Picked up this automatic 2010 Tacoma 2WD to replace our old 'n busted 1980 Chevy C10 2WD for farm duty. So far it's been great, and the Faux-LSD works pretty well, especially compared to the Chevy's open diff.

    We mostly use these trucks for tugging farm equipment on and off-road, fence repair, and logging. The Chevy left us with only 78,000 miles on it, but was becoming unreliable due to component age.

    Thought we'd try something different this time around (Aka a foreign vehicle), just to see how it works out.

    Thought I'd join here in case I ever have any questions or problems with the truck.

    Just from the environment you drive though you will benefit from some new tires. This truck will last much longer than 78,000 miles just keep up on the maintenance.

    How much farm equipment can you possibly pull with that?? Wouldn't you tear out the back end since you don't have a hitch?

    What we usually do is throw sets of partially used snow tires on the back (people tend to dispose of snow tires at 50% wear, which is correct for proper snow grip, but even at 50% wear they still provide excellent soft soil and turf grip). We have a guy at the local tire shop who hooks us up for $10/tire.

    Once the factory all seasons are worn down, we'll start putting on used snows.

    Heaviest piece of equipment we have is our largest New Holland hay baler, which weighs in at ~2,800 lbs. Bumper hitch towing is fine for that, especially at the low speeds we are always at. Spending money on a frame hitch is really an unnecessary expense.

    See 2WD Hilux's worldwide, which are a popular farm vehicle choice. Part of what influenced our decision to change brands.

    Humm, I would bother to check if the TSB you mentioned applies to our truck, but we threw an old AddALeaf kit on it so the TSB is kinda moot.

    Truck isn't registered anyways so kinda a pain to get it to the dealer (would have to get on highway to get there).
