    Hey welcome to my introduction.

I was instructed by the wife it was time for me to get a new vehicle and she told me she has ordered me a truck. She said that it would be a surprise and she would not tell me until the approval was given. For yall that don't know me I hate surprises and not knowing was is going on around me. For weeks I tried getting her flowers to making her coffee/breakfast and I could not get her to budge. I even held out on her but that did not last long, if you know what I mean. Hell I even get parts and installed them onto her 4Runner. Still she would not tell me what she ordered. Well I was just told that the build was approved. She finally told me that she had to have a tacoma built since what I have been looking for is a "unicorn" by our dealer.

She said she knew that I have been wanting to build a truck out so that we could get back to overlanding and enjoying our time together. It has been difficult to do due too my MWD (military working dog) really not liking many people. She is a sweetheart but does not like many changes. With that said I needed something that could take us, the dogs, and all the gear. For several years I have looked at the tacoma but I have always made sure my wife got the newest vehicle and I just drove whatever.

So my wife ordered me the 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-Road Premium Double cab long bed in Army Green. So now the waiting begins. The good part is I can start planning the build which I hope to have done within the first 1-2 years. I know that I have to put the trailer brake controller, the tablet setup (for monitoring the truck which is an awesome setup), and build out the kennel right away so that we can start traveling.

I look forward to learning, helping, and meeting many of you when overlanding or at an expo. Let the adventure begin.

    Curtis

That's way more control than I'd give my wife over what I'm driving!

Congrats on the new Tacoma and welcome aboard! Those are some very handsome pooches. I'm sure by the breed and ear position that your MWD is the Shepherd on the left, she looks beautiful but even a picture isn't something she's fond of, huh?

    Dogs are such fantastic animals!

I will tell you at first I was worried because I didn't know anything. I wasn't to happy about it either but once she told me the build specs I was impressed.

Your close, Hanny is a belgian malinois. Think of a shepherd that has been given 5 cups of coffee to much and has jaws like an alligator. Even in her older age she is still fast and hits hard. Then there is Lola the lab and the little guy is a mut that my wife saved.

I lived next door to a Sheriff’s deputy for a while with a police K9 and it looked a lot like her....it was a Belgian something or other. It only understood commands in Dutch! Whatever language that sucker understood didn’t matter to me, it was probably the last dog I’d ever want pissed at me!

That is funny. Hanny is really protective over my wife and kids. Hell I can not hug my wife and be between her and my wife. If she can't see what is going on she is vocal about it. I have blocked her before and when I did not listen she decided to nip me in the a**. It makes me feel good that she is that protective so if someone does come in I know she will take care of business. The military use to use Dutch commands but several years back they changed to english commands. I will have to say I would not want to be on the receiving end of her because I can feel the pressure of her bite through the bite suit. I take her every other week and do bite work. I will have to say the best is when I took one of my new supervisors from work and had him in the suit and let Hanny at him. Anytime he does a ride along and I stop at my house for lunch he says he will stay in the vehicle and wait.

A lot of people say she is a mean dog because of the way she looks and they say my lab looks sweet. Then I tell them how they both have the same training. An HOA I use to live in had a field day over Hanny. Then at one of the meetings I proved to them how obedient my dogs were. I had a buddy get in the truck with a bit suit on and had him shoot a blank. Under command Hanny went in and tore him apart. We then did it again with Lola and she did the same thing. You should of saw the look on everyone's faces. I then put them both dogs in an area that they couldn't see what was happening and had my wife go into the truck without a bite suit on. I then brought the dogs out and had my wife shoot a blank. I then sent both of them and about 5 feet away from them jumping into the truck I called them off. Ever since that day they never gave me any grief about them and nobody said a word about them walking off leash.

welcome!!! Looks like you were in the Marines? My dad served as well, in Vietnam. Thanks for your service!!

did you work with dogs in the military? I love the German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois type dogs. We used to rescue them.

Can't wait to see the pics of the truck!!! And the build adventure. I just got a 2021 SR5 for roughly the same reasons, though the wifey did not get it for me...but it is for our get-a-way plans in the future.

Thank you. I would still be in but, at the time, once you get injured your done. And with the injuries I sustained I knew I would not be able to stay in. It is bitter sweet but I am in a better place now. Also don't forget to thank your father for all of us. I have met some great guys who fought before me and it has helped me overcome some of my obstacles through out my recovery.
With one of my MOS I did work with K9's but with the other I did not.

will do!!! He has Alzheimers now, but talking about his time in the Marines is one thing that always "brings him around". I/We use it as part of his therapy now too!! Glad to hear that you are in a better place!
