If you have an out of body experience you are leaving your physical body behind , yes ?

Similar to when you die , that was my point .

A person can't believe in heaven or life after death and disbelieve an out of body experience as a possibility

I grew up in the church, have a couple of uncles whom are pastors, my Dad taught Sunday school. And I do have mixed feelings on the matter. Quite frankly, I'm not sure what I believe. Something like, the golden rule, I'm honest, trustworthy and think as a whole people are good. But there are plenty of ass-holes that don't deserve to take another breath.

Oh people are crazy enough I'm sure it's a possibility. Such as your physical self powers your spiritual self as some sort of energy source. Not my belief, the Internet is not a place to express your religious beliefs I think-there is too much judgement.

When you say "out of body experience" do you mean astral projection or astral flight/flying or do you mean like a ND (near death) experience ??

No, most people just say too much. Talk about relationships, wives, families. Hell, look at Facebook.

Well maybe a little, but a major difference is someone having a ND had/has no control of the situation (usually an unforseen accident has taken place) With Astral Projection/Flight it is the individuals sub concious spirit/soul (whatever the hell you want to call it) choice to leave the physical self to "travel" to other places & /or dimensions. Alot of times it will be a familiar place although the era of time (future/past) will be different time continuem..

I experienced alot of Astral Flight when I was a youngster..

Example : Have any of you ever awoke from a nights sleep very suddenly with the feeling of being "thrown on the bed" just as you wake up ??

If so, theres a more than likely chance that your spirit/soul has been out cruising around to familiar & not so familiar places, EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO MEMORY OF THIS EVENT, you have just had an "out of body" experience..

The brain obviously can do some strange things, hence the myriad of mental disorders, so I believe people can have what they be believed to be out of body experiences, just like many people hear voices.

It's a goal that could get you institutionalized though.

Is it really out of body though if you still have a mental state that must include your physical brain?

I like this answer. I think it's all in your head/mental.

LOL! Like I'm not sure how it works but what if you could like watch yourself sleep and walk down the hallway of your home and see your wife/friend doing something where they think they are in complete privacy but in fact you are there. You go back to your physical self, wake up, go in there and be like "hey I saw that" :)

If that is your true belief on the matter thats fine, I think alot of people would agree only because it's a "safe" answer, a concept that they can translate into a logic they can wrap their heads around...

    All the normal TW BS
Weird where I stumble around TW... but anyway:

I was raised Catholic and I'm pretty down to earth, so I guess I'm not much for the metaphysical 'channeling' type stuff, talking to ghosts and hypnosis whateverness, however I have had some weird childhood experiences that I think are like what the OP is talking about.

I used to have fairly frequent, very vivid deja vu. I could sometimes predict the next portion of a conversation between two people, though I usually got the follow up response wrong. I could sometimes predict someone's next action on the playground based on a triggering event, but it wasn't anything helpful. For instance, Pat would come running around a corner, and I'd instantly know that Daniel and David would be the next ones coming without knowing who was there in the first place.

On top of that I'd have experiences where I was experience myself... from outside myself. This really sucks to try to explain, but I'll try to relate one of the experiences I remember:
I used to live in a typical suburban neighborhood where all the houses were ranch style, built in the late 70s. I'm a bad judge of distance, but I'd say there was 20 to 30 feet between my house and the neighbors, separated by an 8 foot high fence.
Anyway, I was playing one day on that side of the house with my tonka trucks or something like that. I all of a sudden have a memory of looking down from about a height of 25 feet on myself playing. It's a feeling like I had an aerial view of myself, not floaty or any bs, more like being in a dream and not having any physical substance. The little boy playing felt like a different entity, even though I recognized that it was clearly me. I didn't have any control over the 'viewing', and I have an odd feeling that I lost some time where I had been playing with my trucks and I wasn't 'there'.

I've also 'followed' myself running around the backyard. One thing I noticed that I never had an experience facing myself, I was always behind or overhead at an angle where I couldn't see my face. during this viewing I wouldn't have control over my physical self or my out-of-body self.

It's nothing I concentrated on doing or something I could make happen, and I haven't had any experience like that since leaving that house when I was 12.

I pretty much lost all deja vu after high school.

    In conclusion?
Maybe I had waking dreams or something. I can't explain the deja vu.

I'm not discounting the possibility that you could experience something, but being able to provoke it or control it? I seriously doubt. You're basically saying you can induce control on the 5th dimension, which means you'd have to control the 4th dimension first (yes I was in the WTF thread right before this :D)

I dont know about the "risky" thing but your statement of non logical belief screams "I've never encountered this before, therefore it doesn't exist.".........

Like I said its a "safe" answer that requires no thought or pondering the concept of "What if."

You say " I prefer evidence."

It wasn't all that long ago it was determined to be "fact" that the world was flat, where was the evidence of this. ?? There wasn't any, it was just too mind bending to believe that the earth was round, maybe the fact that one would go outside & the world seemed flat/pretty much level was evidence enough to declare that the world was indeed flat like it was carved in stone..........

Guess we know now that this wasn't even close to being fact dont we..
