So out with Silver 18 OR and in with Silver 23 OR. Minor shade of silver color change, LED's are really impressive, it does not have as much of a dead spot/lag in the throttle, transmission is still fine, Head Unit is functionally/operationally improved and it rides noticeably better (probably time for at least shocks on 18 after 52k).

So dealer shows me a $219 add on at closing for installing "Door Edge Guards". I am told "they all get it", so i ask is this is not a manufactured or Port installed extra? Nope, tells me Dealer puts on all vehicles when they arrive (mine came in the afternoon before). I assumed these were put on by Toyota at manufacturing - Is that not a true assumption? Thx.

Were they on the window sticker? If not dealer added it. Profit point of $200.

Nope not on it. Thanks for clueing me in. They should have finance ring a store bell in the dealership every time they "Sell" the guards and ring up $200 profit each and every time. Sheesh....

If it’s not on the sticker dealers are required to have a vehicle addendum that lists VIN, stock, etc as well as manufacturer MSRP plus additional add-ons. When I first got started in car business it was my job to make all those. At the time in 2006 we added Nitrofill for $49.95 and bedliners to all trucks for $299.

If it makes you feel any better ... some dealers charge extra $5000 just to buy from them. Others add a $7000 lift kit to an SR and you cannot refuse it.

Jacked up profit? Yes. Worst example of it today in the US? No.

You wanna get bent over, buy from a SE Toyota Distributor dealership. $1,500 to $2,000 of overpriced useless crap on the sticker as "distributor options". They don't call them the SE Toyota Mafia for nothing.

If you only got taken for $219 you're fortunate. Forget about it and enjoy your new truck :)

You are clearly missing a profit opportunity.

That's what I was thinking, I need to tear them off and get them dealer installed. Because my feeble mind doesn't have the slightest clue of how to peel and stick.

I bought a 22 OR last July (or maybe June idk).

Anyway, I order it and explained I wanted NO additional add ons. Not from the port, not at the dealership.

Truck was delivered with door edge guards.

Salesperson said nothing they could do, that all their trucks get them (I don’t think they’re factory though - they obviously get installed at the port or the dealership).

Anyhoo, I believe they were ‘extra’, but I was still getting the truck slightly below MSRP, so I wasn’t complaining.

Fast forward, my kids have made good use of the guards. o_O

I am in that joy right now. $200 phone cords. $200 led light swap. $600 for two oil changes and 4 tire rotations. What state are you buying from? Southeast and gulf states are not Toyota owned and love to put crap on top of what Toyota does for extra profit.

Almost every dealer here in Phoenix has some type of “desert protection package” added on which includes tint, nitrogen tires, paint warranty. ect and I’ve seen some ask almost $5k for those addons even on a 30k car. It’s complete BS and they fight to the end when trying to get them to remove anything

Not all, but many. Avondale Toyota does not play those games, but the waiting list is long because people want to work with them.
