Is the 2014 TRD rear view mirror equipped to show the outside temperature? If it isn't, is the only way to get it, is to buy a new rear view mirror and threading the sensor to the front of the truck?

I have a '14 Access Cab and that's what I did. I picked up a mirror through ebay (it turned out to be a GM version). I mounted the sensor in the grill.

I too used Bob's mirrors from ebay and the kit worked slick. Picked a mirror with the pigtail for the Tacoma and the features I wanted (outside temp and compass) and it was mostly plug and play. Lots of disassembly to route wires, but nothing challenging. Note that it took about a week of wacky compass readings until it finally calibrated correctly.

x3 for Bob's. Hooked right up. Easy peasy. I was hesitant to spend the money just to tell the temp. Wish I hadn't waited so long. I look at it all the time. The Entune weather app is worthless.

That's what I thought. Kinda sucks to have to buy a new mirror as the one in the truck looks like has enough room to display the temp as well.

Was hoping someone found a way to just rig up the sensor without having to buy a new mirror.

Nope. Some '14s shipped with temp display mirrors and then they started throwing plain-Jane ones in at some point. My catalog said mine was supposed to have it but wasn't there when it arrived. They used the Some items subject to change small print to get out of it. On the plus side, the wiring to power it is tucked up in the headliner. You just need to plug in to it and run the temp sensor wire down and out to the engine bay. No messing with splicing wires or connecting to the battery if you get one from Bob.

I guess what I should have said was "I have the auto dim mirror with the compass" and was hoping to find a mod to that mirror to get the temp on there as well. And not have to buy a new mirror.

I don't think that's an option, but I'll pile-on the recommendation to contact Bob's Automotive Mirrors & More LLC. Bob is an expert on this stuff who can answer your questions and sell you a mirror, if that's the path you decide to follow.

I got it through Indiana-Auto on eBay, cost was $65. Product description: "(D1A6) KIT Gentex Auto Dim Rear View Mirror." The link to mine is no longer valid but you should be able to search eBay and find something that will work.

Install was fairly easy. I needed to run power and ground plus two sensor wires up the A-pillar to the mounting point. I had some problems getting the wires connected correctly. I had to do some detective work to figure out what model I had based on the color codes of the wiring harness I was provided. The sensor wires were easy to poke through the grommet near the steering column and route to the grill. The sensor was a right-angle with snap-in clips; I was able to drill a hole in one of the horizontal grill bars and snap it in. It seems to be a good location since it doesn't seem to be affected by direct sunlight.

    All in all I'm pleased.

Installed Overhead Compass and Temperature Display along with outside temperature sensor and wiring; LED lights reverse backup; LED license plate lights; Added GTA Bluetooth Audio kit to stock radio for iphone audio; Spare tire steel braided air hose extension connection to rear bumper; Installed new headlights along with new bulbs PIAA H4 XTreme and for fog lights PIAA H10 XTreme bulbs. Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
    This definitely is different.

Not that I'm thinking of getting one since I already have the outside temp. display on the overhead console (so why have two?) but still interesting and different, also would help those who don't have the outside temp. feature, to maybe consider installing it.

Yes, I also would like more info on that as well.

EDIT: Never mind just did a search and this is what I found on it.

That's about as much as they sell the mirrors for with the temp on it though.
