I was reading basically the same article elsewhere, it listed that they would like to sell 4.5 million hybrids and 1 million combined fuel cell and electric vehicles

That’s why I think Tesla struggles a bit, just doesn’t have the brand reputation, recognition that Toyota can bring. That and affordability.

If this is average , and after 8 years the batteries are still at 80% , I would buy a vehicle with this tech/life that could pull 3000 lbs and have a range of at least 300 miles without worry of weather , or times etc. when my 2016 dies .

Anyone thinking about solar & Tesla power walls I recommend watching this video. Extremely informative. Check out Googles solar site as well for the cost to break even on your existing home.

The biggest problem to overcome is to equal the range of a vehicle before energizing it as from gas , and the time it takes to do so . If there were more interesting places or reasons to spend time while recharging for travelers ? At the same time , big city people may never travel by car and they do not care or can even understand about what it is to live in the rural USA.

Anyway , I am glad to have my 2016 Tacoma , I hope to not longer feel it will be forced to be my last truck because I hope to live and be able to go fishing and launch a boat for over the next 10 years . 2025 is not far away !

    Good info!

The one part of new information there for me is that you can't charge the power wall from the grid. That is a problem here because being so far north, we can't get enough sun, esp in the winter, to justify the cost yet. That is where my 10yr hope is for better solar efficiency and economy of scale.

IMHO, that roof doesn't look too bad to get up there and clean the panels. But, I am okay with stuff like that.

Battery technology has a long way to go before it becomes an attractive alternative to ICE. I refuse to buy into the media koolaid about how EV is better than ICE in every way... sorry, no, we're not there yet. And no I'm not buying an overpriced Tesla with a mediocre range that takes 20+ minutes to charge.

I could definitely get behind the idea of a hybrid Tacoma -- that would be awesome in fact -- but an EV Taco? Not a chance in hell. Talk to me again when batteries can yield a reliable range of 400-500 miles, can be charged in 5 minutes, with a lifespan of at least 12 years in all environmental conditions.

The day I can get an electric Tacoma (or at least hybrid), I'll likely be all over it.

That roof doesn't even really exist. I wouldn't give Tesla a dime for solar given all the horror stories out there. Elon is an outright fraud the whole solar city deal was a bailout for his brother.

    Easy there. :D

Tesla is the main player now, but as I said a few times, I'm looking 10yrs out with the hope that folks like Bollinger and Rivian or even Toyota are cranking out a minimalist 4wd EV.

Tesla has forced the major auto makers to play catch up. They were a major disruptor in the automobile market and other manufacturers stood by the side lines thinking that the new player in the market would go belly up. They have forced change for the good of our planet. It was a HUGE diversion for luxury car buyers who opted for a Model S instead of a Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, etc. The Tesla Model S is the only reason why Porsche is coming out with the all electric Taycan sedan by the end of this year.

I have driven a Model S for an extended weekend and also the Model 3. My biggest impression? After driving an EV for a weekend and enjoying the near silent drivetrain, instant torque off the line, excellent laptop screen, etc. my current gas powered car felt jumping into a Ford model T.

I do hate Tesla for one major reason: the replacement parts supply chain. They are proprietary to Tesla meaning they are only sold through Tesla and they can charge whatever the market will bear. If a body shop needs a replacement hood, fender, interior bits, air bags, etc. they currently have no option but to purchase them from Tesla.

    Yeah um no

They've proven there's not enough margin in the product.

Have smoked through billions of dollars.

Given everyone a lesson in how not to paint a car. Hint the paint is shit, i'm sure no one has heard about how bad they're paint system is in terms of permits these days.

Decided to buy up a failing business Solar City to save face.

Have introduced more vaporware products that don't exist. Where's the insurance they were supposed to come out with in 30 days? How about the semi yup not a single word on that these days. How about the roadster? What about the SR Model 3?

Have installed non automotive grade touch interfaces.

Tesla will make history alright. It will become living proof of the power of social media, gullible people believing lies and fraud. Tesla is going have it's clock cleaned by other companies.

I agree with TRDProOne. Tesla def created waves, however they didnt have the manufacturing ability to take advantage. They could have crushed competition but floundered and now manufacturers are rushing to catch up.

Tesla is on the stretcher and the race has barely started. Tesla, Uber, Lyft, WeWork, Chewy are proof that the Fed has pumped way too much money into the economy. All zombie companies, but we can't expect Robinhood users aka bagholders to understand a P & L statement.

My opinion is that Tesla will eventually be bought out. The stock is on a downward slide and demand for its cars has dropped. The only thing helping out Tesla right now is the strong economy. They plan on revealing a pickup truck late this year which could be a game changer. The towing capacity is said to be off the charts.

Curious to see what will happen in the next 5-years. I think solid state batteries will be a game changer and make the current laptop battery technology obsolete.
