On my best tank (25mpg) I did 412 miles and the light still wasn't on. I suspect it was going to come on within the next 10 miles though. I filled up with 16.5 gallons that time. My light comes on between 16.5 and 17 gallons used depending on the pump.

2010 DC LB 4x4 stock.... Just filled up this am. 356 miles on 91 octane it took 18.4 gals. All stop and go , no hiway. I'm always a little nervous pushing to the limit. I imagine with the 2.6 gals left in the tank I could get to 400+ miles.

The mileage didn't change significantly with 91 vs 87 octane.

Most of you are still not saying what a 'tank' is, to you? 400 miles at what point? E light, E-Line, somewhere else on the gauge?

A tank is 21 gallons, but are you running out and then adding gas at that point, from a spare can?

    400 divided by 21 gallon tank = 19 mpg.

    but, at E-Line (18.5 gallons) = 21.6 mpg.

    at E-Light (17 gallons) = 23.5 mpg.

So, please tell us HOW MANY GALLONS you filled up with at 400 (or whatever) miles were driven.

Thanks Fargo... Do you recall where your gauge was when you filled up with the 18.4 gallons? Pretty close to the E-Line, I bet?
    PS, I love your movie!

X2. I just hate when ppl chat about how much they do with a tank of gas... it is just soooo subjective.

I just got 20.4 mpg (up to 428 miles if I'd driven it til empty) on my last tank towing our small tent trailer home from a camping trip. All highway mileage at about 55 mph.

Interesting, my 2010 auto 4x4 gets about 15% better gas mileage than my 2009 manual 4x4. The two are definitely geared differently. The auto runs at less than 2000 rpm when at 70 mph.

That's great... My best is 19.2 and a week ago I got 19.1 driving down Baja to El Rosario... It is hard to not go over 55 mph, and so my highway mileages are based on 60-80 mph!

In winter, driving lots of highway at 75-85, I get about 19-20mpg. Best I ever saw was a tick under 27mpg, doing lots of 2 lane state roads during the summer. I've done lots of 400+ mile tanks, but never in winter, and never at highway speeds.

Best mileage is on 40-50mph roads in the summer.

It makes a big difference in the motor... you have a 2700 cc I-4 vs. the 4000 cc V-6. 19-27 is nice... wish I could get that, but 15-19 will have to do.

Yeah it is! The only reason I kept my speed that low is because my wife was pulling a trailer full of horses and we had to stay together.

2006 V6 4x4 TRD OR AC Auto; when fully stock I hit the low fuel light several times at 400+ miles on the highway at 70mph w/ cruise control at 1900-1950 RPMs. It was just over 400 - like 405, 402, etc. When I'd fill up I'd see between 18 and 20 gallons go in (I fill the tank all the way up the neck to the brink of overflowing at the edge of the open port). This gave me between 20 and 22 mpg averages.

Now, with a 2.5" lift, 265/75/16 tires, TRD CAI, and Gibson cat-back, I average 17.8-18.5 no matter the type of driving.

21.1 gallons for all 2005+ Tacomas... Warning E-light comes on after ~17 gallons consumed or ~4 gallons still in tank. The E line amount is about 2.5 gallons still in the tank.

I could have ran to +400 miles on my full tank today, but I decided to fill up before I ran out of gas in BFE. When I did fill up I had used 17.4 gallons after bucking a head wind for the last 200 miles. Now that I know just where and what the gas gauge means in relation to the actual gas in the tank I know I can hit 400 easily on a semi regular basis. I normally refill with a quarter tank left at around 300 miles.
