Hello all, new guy here- first post!

I found a truck online for sale. They wanted quite a bit but got them down to 3000$. It has and obvious extreme amount of KM (see title), and I’m told it could use the timing chain replaced but is still a daily driver running strong. Given the price of vehicles now I’m thinking on buying this truck and doing an engine rebuild eventually.
At 3000$ I think after an engine rebuild I’m still ahead of the game. Apparently the frame is in great shape also. Seems like a great project I can drive immediately.

    Thoughts?

Hi thanks. I’ve read that’s an issue. It’s such a gamble in general I know…
This is a quote from the seller (who is the one and only owner), “Perfect Frame Condition: The frame is in excellent shape, with an anti-rust coating applied to the undercarriage for added protection.” I would certainly be under the truck tapping around if I go take a look!

This model with low km (if it could even be found) I bet would easily be 20,000$cad. Price of vehicles are bonkers now

That’s almost 400,000 miles. That’s a project truck. It may be cheap to buy but it’s going to be expensive to repair and maintain. And it’s going take up a lot of your time. Things that are cheap often end up being quite expensive. Why do you want an old high mileage vehicle? What are you going to use it for?

Assuming the truck is a 2005 and is Canada. Is the truck certified? (ie you can get it on the road without putting any money imto). Scrap value is probably close to $1,000. If it is certified and you can get it safely on the road for C$3k, I don't that is an awful deal. Understand you'd have a 20 year old truck that you'll have to put some money into. One time rust treatment doesn't provide protection forever. Also common for rust protection to be applied over rust... which all it does is hide the rust. Just so you know early 2nd gen trucks also had an issue with head gaskets.
