Huh, cant say Ive seen that before. Though I do notice the meter is saying it needs a new battery in it. Wonder if that would solve the misreading issue?

It senses voltage on the S-Terminal, if it can't sense voltage properly it can't output the correct voltage either.

Don't feel too bad, I've spent the better part of the day chasing what I thought was a CAN bus issue on a GM truck but I think my scanner was screwing with me and I just have a defective TCM.

Yeah. But would there be a point that it would not charge any higher?
Like a fail safe cut off point for over charging?

If it can't sense the voltage correctly it doesn't know where it's at, I do know if the S-Terminal is open it will still charge (warning light will be on) but I'm not sure what it uses as a backup strategy for voltage sensing.

Just wanted to drop back by and thank everyone that chimed in today. It was all very educational. I can tell this is a great community.

I ended up getting the alternator swapped back out and returned.

Along the way I found an issue with the brake lights coming on when the headlights were turned on. Found another thread in here that led me to an aftermarket wiring harness and was able to get that sorted out.

Great information, and glad to be part of this community!
