on my 21 tacoma, while installing new leaf packs I had over torqued the bolt to the front leaf hangar. This unfortunately made the bolt grind into the leaf hangar, shaving a bit of the metal out.
Many people have told me it will be just fine, and ive run it like this for about 30k miles while spraying fluid film over it monthly to keep the rust at bay. The bolt hasnt moved, nor has the hangar had any flex/rusting.

But it still eats at me daily, as maintenance is life!

Should I really not worry about this, or should I go for the repair?
And if I do go for it, how easy is it to just replace the whole hangar. I was initially thinking of having someone weld beads around it to fill it in or something like that.

Picture for attention! just ran a tahoe trip and the new tires are phenomenal

This is about the most non-issue issue I've ever seen.

IF I actually cared about addressing this it'd be a weld washer and on with life.

Like they said, not much of a cause for concern.
At the most, I would clean it and paint, then tighten.

Honestly I'd be more worried about the bolt threads failing from being over torqued or if you damaged the leaf bushing sleeve vs the minuscule damage to the hanger.

Most mechanics give it several ugga-duggas with a 1/2" air impact and call it good. That is to say the condition you created is quite common. No issues.

The bigger risk is the bolt loosening and backing out. Happened to me last summer. As a preventative measure, I put a nyloc nut on those bolts.

Agree with all the above. Wire wheel, sand, and weld a washer on if it bothers you that much. Not an issue at all.

Or go ahead and replace everything if you need to do so to ease your worrying. Have fun with that bill.

Let this be a lesson to you. You tighten the nut to the bolt. Not the bolt to the nut. Toyota and several other manufactures have knurling on the washer part of the bold head. And that knurling is what created that circular groove.

yeah next time i put a new leaf pack on, ill be putting a washer over that bolt head since i cant get a torque wrench on the other side to fit. Ive checked other tacomas and there isnt a washer on the outside part of the bolt. wondering why they didnt put one in from the get go.

They didn't put one in because the bolt is already flared, adding another washer would be redundant and introduce an extra point of failure, and they expect people to follow torque specs lol.

As everyone else said, non-issue. If it were me I'd just spray it with some rustoleum black and call it a day.. Cutting your hangers out is a process. but a good opportunity to upgrade if it fits your needs/you want to

Perfection is the enemy of good enough.

As I often tell my wife, there is a big gap between having attention to detail and being anal.

If it makes you happy, put a lock washer on it and then fa-ged-a-boud-it.

That would be attention to detail.

This is actually an issue. Not from the metal wear, but if you ANY of you posting in this thread have taken these off, the bolt heads on these are serrated. Prime example of why you shouldn't take everything for face value on the internet.

Why is this bolt head serrated/What is this for? The serrations help to bite into the surface of the leaf spring hanger to keep them mechanically locked into place.

How did this happen? It happened from you tightening from the bolt side instead of the nut side. Use a wrench to keep that bolt steady, and use a crows foot 19mm adapter on the nut on the backside to tighten and final torque.

If you pull this bolt, I'm sure the serrations are gone or worn. Replace when you are able to. Monitor torque.

Proper fix is going to be to pull the leaf packs, wire wheel that area down, paint, use new bolts/nuts from the dealer.
