Could you be a little more specific about what is happening? Sorry but your description is a bit vague. Perhaps a more detailed explanation to include vehicle speed and what you are doing when this failure you are mentioning occurs?

Did they check and see if it is the Shift Lock Solenoid or Shift Lock Control Switch

    Help!!!!
    I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma SR5. Automatic. 4 cylinders
I got it used from a non-toyota dealer. When I turn it on, the "overdrive" button automatically sets itself to "on". I felt that the accelerator was a little heavy, and when I hit the "overdrive" button, I saw the dashboard light read "O/D OFF"... Meaning that the overdrive was on the whole time. Any help?

I believe that's normal, OD is on by default, and is turned off by pressing the button. My 2nd gen doesn't have this, but I know on previous fords I've drivin that's how it works.

Rafael, you are describing normal operation of the transmission. Please refer to my response to your PM. MCWTexas, did you get your problem resolved? If not let us know what we can do to help more.

I have an 04 Tacoma, just got it and it rocks :D....i have a similar question when i press the O/D button, a light on the dashboard pops up. the light says O/D OFF << does this mean that the O/D is on all the time and when we press the button its turns OFF?........also if i do normal driving here in Cali, no towing, should i leave the O/D ON?

    Thanks!!

I know this is an old thread but I'm having the same issues as the OP. I'm confused to how the shift lock is related to the O/D switch...

Consider it as this: With the OD on, you have a 4 gear transmission. 4th being overdrive. Overdrive was made for fuel economy, not towing. When the OD is off, you get a 3 gear transmission, and can tow without destroying your tranny. Look for a Gearcruncher thread or reply and look at the sig on his posts. You will see what towing in overdrive will get ya. OD is always on by default. Off when needed.

    There will be a test!
