Yes. I hate gear hunting, would rather keep rpms a bit higher

Absolutely. I pull mine out of OD and run in 4th gear quite often even at lower altitudes. If I'm in an area where 40-45 is as fast as I can drive for an extended period I take it out of OD until I'm on the open road. At those speeds the truck keeps wanting to shift to OD, but it doesn't have enough rpm's at that speed in OD to have any power.

Also, if you're in an area that sells 85 octane as regular don't use it. Stay with 87 octane gas at a minimum. That is pretty common in areas above 5000-6000' elevation. The 85 octane behaves like 87 in most older cars at altitude, but newer ones still need 87 or more.

Whenever I pop into drive, heading to work or whatever, I always go to 4 as a habit. I have realized this truck likes to be in OD at 25 mph which is actually hilarious. There is no power available at 1000 rpm. These trucks would benefit greatly from a transmission tune, and especially a tow haul mode. I'd probably use that all the time. I just did a 2500 mile road trip with 1800lbs of payload and kept it out of OD. 70mph at 2800 rpm was reasonable. The power was there when I needed it and I actually got better mpg. And then theres the benefit of trans temps staying lower
