    Hi Guys,

new here with a '07 V6 tacoma with 99k miles that I bought recently.

I noticed when driving on backroads with lots of hills at around 50-60mph the shift from 4 to 5 seems like it slips a bit, and the downshift also, albeit less.

All other gears are fine, low or high throttle it doesn't matter, 1-2-3-4 shifts are good and precise.

The previous owner told me the fluid has been replaced at around 60k miles.

Also noticed the shift lever cable seems to be slightly off adjustment, the D light doesn't light up right away when coming from N, I have to go toward 4 and go back to D. Also I can't select 2 and L. Could it be related to my problem ?

I want to check fluid level and cable adjustment this weekend but wanted some input. I searched a good bit on the net and found various info, but nothing concerning 4-5 or 5-4 slip/flare.

    Thanks !

others will chime in but this sounds normal to me,
4 > 5 transmission shifts and the torque converter lockup occurs shortly after, the TC Lockup is slow so it has a smooth engagement.
5 > 4 I think the 5 > 4 you're experiencing is actually the torque converter unlocking in 5th and not kicking down to 4th (not a slip per se but the trans going into slush mode).

as for the Cable adjustment you might want to source a manual for the step by step.

The rpm actually raises under certain condition when doing the 4 to 5 shift tho.

I'll try and take a video.

    Thanks !

probably when its in 4th lockup, it will unlock the tc during the shift to 5th before it lockups again.
