I mean its not like the people who made the engine know how much oil comes out in an oil change or anything.

I have, but a mechanic probably measured how much oil came out on the test vehicle because that would require touching tools.

I'm a mechanic and I can read and chew gum at the same time.

Hahaha, nice. Did not mean to offend.

Ever measured how much oil came out of a car? If so why. What did it tell you? Not much other than this is how much came out.

So put some back in to some arbitrary line on a metal pokey thing that may or may not be accurate and call it a day.

No I haven't measured. It says in the manual and that's good enough for me. If you did want a good measurement you would use an accurate scale. Volume changes with temperature so weight would be the only way to go. Weight is also how oil is measure for sale as well.

Always short the refill by about 1/4 quart. Then run and top off if needed. I change oil on tons of third gens. I really don’t understand the problem reading the dipstick. . This is not to be a dick or put anyone down at all but if you can’t read a dipstick maybe you shouldn’t be changing your own oil.

I've always just dumped in 6 quarts with filter and called it a day. No need to worry about getting that extra .20 percent in.

Same with any other vehicle oil capacities ie motorcycles, etc. I just round it to the nearest quart. Never been an issue.

Drain used oil. Add six quarts of fresh oil. Check (scuffed) dipstick for oil level. Add oil as needed.

Sure, but an Engineer has to be able to read, chew gum, and walk all at the same time! (they prolly text & drive too! sheesh!)

(I'm a mech and actually spent time writing repair manuals for a major air line. I can read too!)

A little bit of confusion about oil capacity evident in this thread. This is from the FSM (last modified 02-19-2019) for the 2GR-FKS engine. Take a look at what it says, then someone start a new thread on 15W40.
