So I checked my brand new Taco a few times, and the oil on the dip stick measures like 1/4 over the max line/dot.

    Is this deliberate ?

    Edit 10/10/2023

I just drained and changed oil/oil filter on my Taco @500 miles (because of my OCD) !

I was right, this thing was overfilled from factory!

I measured 6.7 to 6.8 qts., excluding the oil that got spilled, and the remaining oil from the oil catch I used.

Is this why the engine was vibrating so much before I drained it, now it's calm

Check after running and waiting 5 minutes. Any longer and the drain down will show over filled, especially overnight

The truck sitting level? Not pitched towards the engine?

1/4 means 1/4 inch right? Toyota dipsticks are horrid for measuring the oil level, I recommend scratching the correct area with a file or course sandpaper, heck I just did a camry oil change today and after putting the 5.2q in it looked like it had oil halfway up the dipstick.

Flip the dipstick over. Sometimes one side will read higher than the other. The lower one is typically your actual reading.

Interesting. From my experience, I get the clearest reading once it sits overnight. It’s a very distinctive line but usually only on one side of the dipstick.

Would overfilling result in an Engine light?
