Which resistors did you use? Thanks!

IF you scroll back in the thread: 47 ohm 1/4 watt

Most people are using 51ohm 1/4 watt carbon film resistors. But the concensensus seems to be that 47ohm also works in a pinch. They are cheap, unfortunately I only ever see them sold in bulk. I can mail you a couple if your not in a rush.

Ultimately it ends up being more practical to just buy a pack. Then you have enough to do this repair for a lifetime, or hook up nearby folks.

Thanks for the offer. I wish I would have seen this earlier as I never got a good quality solder job done on the 510 resistors. Every few years the display would go blank and I'd need to re-solder. The last time I went to solder them, I must have got the board too hot and damaged it. I'll see if it's salvageable and reach out if I need a few 51ohm's. Thanks again for the offer!

I've sent out at least a dozen sets of the 47 ohm and people are happy.

Those solder pads are so tiny it's hard to tell. I went with the other style resistors because it's a little easier to install. Maybe you need to just unsolder the old ones, clean the area and redo?
The overhead compass is just a nice luxury, but not necessary anyway. Message me anytime, I still have 98 resistors left over.

I wonder if anyone has used those silicone heatsink pad things on the 510 resistors. This might be my next experiment if this new fix fails.

Lost the display in our 2005 a couple days ago..... one 510 resistor badly fried. Would you mind sending a couple to me? Let me know and I'll message my info. Thanks!

Just soldered a loose 510 resistor back in place. Thanks to OP and everyone else that has contributed.

While re-soldering new 510's or different resistors altogether seems to be the fix for inop/non-working displays, what seems to be the fix for fluctuating temperature displays that are severely inaccurate? (for example, the temperature reading will range/change from -36F to 80F with the occasional " --- " readout). I've already replaced the ambient temp sensor with a new OEM sensor and also tried re-soldering the 510's with no different results.

Say what? What's the travel distance have to do with the temperature inconsistency? These temps will be all over the place just sitting still in the driveway.

 I don't follow that line of reasoning. I take our trucklet to the PO & store a few times per week (short trips), and we also drive it a couple hours or so 2 or 3 times a month (longer trips).

I have never noticed any unusual temperature fluctuations on the display.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. Completed this fix today soldering the original 510 resistors back in with success. One of my resistors was floating around in the overhead console, the other one was still holding on to one side. Love this forum for info like this.

Did this fix a few years back, EZ with a computer soldering iron. My current problem with the display is that is shines brightly when I first start the truck up in the AM and shines nicely for about a hour, but after awhile, it fades, but doesn't go completely blank. I am thinking resolder, but it appears the updated version is the way to go for permanent fixola because of the heat generated by the resistors doesn't stand up to the resolder forever...

Thanks for this post. My compass and temp display just stopped working about a year after I bought the truck new. I thought it had to be a simple fix to find the fuse that goes to it and replace it. Well here we are more than 10 years later and still no compass or temp . All the fuses in both locations have checked out good about three times so far. One of the big problems with going the route that I did with it is that the fuse that goes to it isn't really specified anyway. Two of the are called 'gauge' but what gauge is anybody's guess.

It's been a couple years, but any chance you still have some of these kicking around before I order 100?
