I just did mine a week ago, and it is still working.
Just make sure that you blame the original posted of this thread for your console not working.

as I said a few posts earlier, if you're used to solder, you likely did like me and solder only "under" the connection, but these resistor heat and bend so you have to put way more solder all around the connection to either hold it there or make a contact from the "side".

Hi Scott214- glad you got yours working-the original post that I used to fix mine was from Rich (Secret Squirrel). My display went out again, due mostly to my soldering job and because I didn't put pressure on the 510 while I was soldering it...Gonna give it another go this weekend.

The fix worked like a charm. My soldering ain't pretty but it works! Thanks for describing the problem well - my gauge went out then intermittently worked. I e-mailed Toyota who did not have much sympathy to repair it since it was 6 months out of warranty. Ten minutes later, I now know where North is and that it is cold today.

Man if I would have known it was this easy to fix I wouldn't have gone almost a year without it. I love being able to see the temperature. haha

Thanks a ton for posting up this info.

Thank you very, very much!! For almost a year I had gone without my overhead compass/temp display. This little repair saved me a bundle! I heard the dealer wanted to charge over 1K for the repair. I couldn't thank you guys enough!

So the problem is that the compass/temp display just go blank??

I was in the desert a few weeks ago and i think the heat might have messed up the temp gauge. For a while all it displayed was "- - -"
After i started driving home and air started moving around my truck, it started reading 122, 121, 120 and kept going down. Now i have a feeling it's innacurate.
What does the temp gauge read? outside or inside temp?

i've noticed that it always reads hotter when the vehicle is first turned on, then counts down to the correct temp. mine has never seen "---" though.

this thread is full of 1st timers lol! It's sad to think how many of these gauges stop working. I've had to solder mine 2 times within the past year.

When i saw the 3 dashes "---" i was like. Fuck!.. But when i started driving it showed 122F and started moving down to about 100F. I know it was hot in the desert and my truck was in the blazin heat the entire day without moving so i guess the cabin roof might have gotten too hot for the temp gauge to read?

I think it's innacurate now because it's a few days ago it displayed 68F at like 8am with clouds then at about 10am clear sky (in the same day) it still showed 68F. Maybe a coinsidence? Well at least it still hasn't gone completely out.
