I didn't. I just took a bunch of poorly written directions and put them together so it was easily readable.

Just did it and the stock solders didn't look too bad before, but I just decided to re-solder them anyway... Guess what. Worked!

Wow... 275 posts in this thread & I'd bet that 200+ of them are people popping in to tell us it worked.

It annoys me that Toyota never acknowledged this as being a problem.

Glad we could help, either way... :D

Annoys the hell out of me too. Had mine first changed under warranty two years into the truck and now, again, a year and a half later it fails.
A persistent problem Toyota is not addressing.
Thanks again SecretSquirrel for the info on the fix.

Well, I too like so many others was just about to buy a new one today and decided to wait. Couldn't see paying that much for a temp guage just before Christmas. Decided to look online and found Squirrel's post and decided to try it. Wham bam THank you Man!!!! Works like a charm and I even created little soldering towers with my incredible soldering skills.

Thanks for the detailed instruction. I almost lost my chip cause it was completely off. I just super glued it & it works great.

This is great! Only problem I had was once I repaired it I turned up my subs up and sure enough, vibrated it right off the mount. So I went back, soldered, and used a dab of superglue. lol hoping the glue isnt flammable now that I think of it.
