Just re solder it, should work perfect when there is a good solder bond.

Worth trying again, when mine was crapping out it did the same...didn't work until warm then intermittent then died completely.

I've had to re-solder mine twice.
    It works ok now.

I'm wondering if the resistor gets so hot,
that it begins to liquefy the solder
    causing an open.

Sounds like a question for Toyota...!!!

Hey Guys! Newb to the forum. Found this thread when I ran into the problem. Excellent write-up w/ pics.

    New Soldering Kit = $8
How to solder video on Youtube (5 min of time) = $0
    15 min of my time w/ this write-up = $0

A working temp/compass display without the dealer charging me an arm and a leg = Priceless

    Thanks again!!

I wrote a snot-a-gram to Toyota Canada this morning describing this simple fix that their dealers want to rape us to repair. If I get an answer back from them I'll post it on here.

Once I got over my fear of breaking the console assembly to get it down, it was easy.

My temp./compass was flickering on and off for a few weeks and then it finally went out completely. I randomly came across this fix and decided i'd try it. I pulled it all apart and found one of the 510s completely shot up as if it were trying to jump off the board. I went and bought some soldering wire and soldered it back and it is once again fully functional. Thanks for the post. Saved lots of hassle and cash.

Temp/Compass been out for about 3 months, hubby took it down and looked at it, said "nothing wrong, call Toyota" - ha. Found this forum, researched it, printed fix off and hubby did it last night in under 15 minutes start to finish... and he fixed the unconnected bulb behind the AC/heat control. YOU ALL ROCK! Thanks for sharing :D

First time poster here...been lurking on/off for awhile now. Found this post last year and put it in the back of mind. While cleaning the toolbox, I came across a piece of soldering wire wrapped around the soldering iron. Took about 10 minutes start to finish.....thanks guys, I won't get lost anymore!
